You mistake escaping for running, Steppenwolf. I don't run.
- — Scot src
Scot, also known as Scott Free or Mister Miracle, is a New God. Scot is the God of Freedom and has the uncanny ability to escape any trap, prison, or bonds.
History
Origin
Scot, the son of New Genesis' leader Highfather, was traded as a child to New Genesis' greatest enemy Apokolips as a means of keeping the peace between the two worlds. In exchange for giving up his son, Highfather in turn received Orion, son of Darkseid. However, the peace was short lived as both planets soon reengaged back into war.
On Apokolips, Scot grew up in Granny Goodness' Orphanage, a torture camp run by Granny Goodness. There, Scot met his future wife Barda, and the two endured Goodness' torturous punishments before escaping years later as adults. Scot used Granny's punishments to practice the escaping skills he would become famous for in the future.[1]

Scot came to Earth, where he trained as an escape artist under the heroic showman Thaddeus Brown.[2] Scot and Barda were married, and when Brown was murdered, Scot adopted his mentor's stage name "Mister Miracle" and instructed Brown's young friend Shilo Norman in the use of his Fourth World technology.[3] As Mister Miracle he joined the ranks of the newly-reformed Justice League,[4] accompanied by Barda and Oberon,[5] Thaddeus Brown's former assistant.[2] With the League, Miracle watched ineffectually as the Doom Patrol fought the Brotherhood of Dada within the Painting That Ate Paris.[6] With Barda, Miracle attended a performance by the alien musician Star Adam.[7]
However, at some point afterwards, Scot was recaptured by Darkseid and forced to become the sentient host of the Black Racer for a time before somehow escaping its control.[8]

Scot returned to Apokolips to discover what Darkseid was after now, infiltrating his throne room to access his secret files. He uncovered information about his target when Darkseid discovered him. In the ensuing fight, Mister Miracle was wounded but could escape through a Boom Tube.
Landing on Earth, he found Lashina and Kanto who immediately confronted him in battle and nearly killed him until he once again managed to Boom Tube away. This time he arrived near a strange woman, who offered him to join her in her war against Darkseid.[9] She tried to convince him that the coming war was necessary to kill the Dark God, that the billion human casualties were the price to pay, but Scot didn't agreed with her, so the Amazon tried to slay him before Scot once again escaped through Boom Tube.[10]
He landed on the Rock of Eternity, finally coming across the Justice League to explain them the situation and request their help, noticing that Batman was above Metron's Mobius Chair. He managed to get the League's assistance to stop Darkseid, but before departing he immobilized Metron because of the latter's treachery.[11]
Once in the battlefield, Scot battled against Kanto until Darkseid finally met his death at the hand of the Anti-Monitor.[12] Confirming the despot's demise, he went to explain the truth behind the Black Racer to its current host, explaining that escaping from death is beyond even him.[8]
After the Dark God's death, Kanto engaged Scot in battle with Scot nearly being killed again before Barda Boom Tubed to his location and saved him. Barda would then go on to take care of Kalibak, whilst she did this Scot voiced his reservations about being seen with her as he wondered what the Furies and Granny Goodness would think if they were seen together, but before he could finish Barda interrupted him with a passionate kiss and told him to let them try to do something to get between them. Barda offered Lashina to let bygones be bygones, but Lashina refused her and vowed to continue pursuing her and Scot.
After the dust settled, he and the League would talk about their next plan of action. It was ultimately decided that they would need the Crime Syndicate's help in defeating Mobius, as they were the only ones with experience fighting him. In order to do this they had to break into Belle Reve.[13]
While his wife provided a distraction, Scot was able to confront Ultraman. When Scot asked what Mobius goal was Ultraman, with tears in his eyes, said: "to kill every last one of us." Barda then broke down the door and told him she saw a green explosion down the hall. When they arrived they saw that Power Ring had taken complete control of Jessica Cruz and had hacked into Cyborg, Superwoman then used heat vision to blast Scot and Barda into the hall at which point Owlman blew open a hole in the prison wall and proclaimed that the Crime Syndicate and the Justice League must work together if they wish to defeat Mobius.[14]
Scot helped Justice League fighting the resurrected Darkseid and Grail. After the war, Barda revealed that in order to stay Apokolips' forces following Darkseid's death and Lex Luthor's subsequent acquisition of the Omega Sanction, she had made a deal with the Female Furies in exchange for their help, but would have to rejoin their ranks as their leader again, and before leaving with them via a Boom Tube, told Scot she loved him and hoped one day they'd be together again, leaving him heartbroken.
Despite their split, years later, Barda had returned to Scot, thanks to Lex Luthor's failure at ruling Apokolips allowing her to escape back to Earth, and they rejoined the ranks of Earth's heroes.[citation needed]
Miracle used his expertise in escape artistry to design the highly-secure East Wing of Gotham City's Arkham Asylum in the hopes of preventing Harley Quinn from freeing her partner the Joker,[15] and to found Miracleware Security, which provided screening measures aboard the Justice League's Watchtower satellite.[16] He attended the New Genesisian funeral of Forager,[17] was summoned by Batman to the Fortress of Solitude to unlock a room containing a Cosmic Tuning Fork,[18] and was temporarily transformed into a game piece by the reality-warping rogue artificial intelligence Chagra. After returning to normal, he and the rest of the New Gods welcomed the resurrected Forager back to New Genesis.[19]
New Justice
On Earth, he performed live in the cities of Metropolis and Gotham,[20] and in Los Angeles he and Barda aided the Justice League's relief efforts in response to global, mutagenic flooding.[21] However, Miracle was transformed by the waters into a humanoid hammerhead shark, and fell under the sway of the triumvirate of Sea Gods responsible.[22] In the tomb of Arion, he was one of the many transformed superhumans who cornered his former allies Superman, the Flash, and Mera before they were rescued by Aquaman, who later used their now-aquatic natures to commune with and call on Miracle and the other transformed heroes to hold back the Kraken. At the crisis' conclusion, the waters receded and all affected were restored to their own forms.[23]
He and Barda traveled with the Atom, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl to Mars to join the Earth's heroes in confronting Doctor Manhattan over his efforts to discredit Superman. When the faceoff turned violent, the gathered heroes were handily defeated by Manhattan.[24] With his fellow New Gods, he delivered the Omega Titan Wonder to the Source Wall in a bid to repair it that backfired, destroying the wall and freeing Perpetua.[25] He was among the heroes investigated by Batman and Superman for potential infection by the Batman who Laughs.[26]

On the anniversary of their marriage, he and Barda vacationed together, and Scot bought his wife a bracelet as a gift. While away, they were attacked by the Female Furies, who sought the bracelet in the mistaken belief that it was a weapon. Together, they fought off the Furies, and though the bracelet was broken in the process, they made each other jewelry from a Mother Box destroyed in the battle.[27] He and Barda attended the funeral of the thought-dead Justice League, held at their Hall of Justice.[28]
All In
They settled down in Glendale, California, and had a daughter, Olivia Free, sharing her care while Barda was also active as a member of the superhero team the Birds of Prey. Scott Free's domestic life was interrupted by the arrival of Orion, who revealed that he had been tasked by Highfather with killing Kamal, an Earth-born infant New God. Rather than disobey his father's orders himself, Orion pushed his brother to seek out and shelter the child, giving him a seven-day lead on his own hunt.[29] On the night after the third day, Free built up the nerve to leave his family for his quest. However, he was intercepted by an angry Barda, who insisted on joining him, with their daughter in tow.[30]
Scott Free and his family made their way to Oberon's island home for help in finding the child; his old assistant presented him with the "Escape-a-tron," a machine capable of teleporting its user to a given Source signature—such as that of their quarry. Free and Barda turned their daughter over to Oberon to keep her out of harm's way, and caught up with Kamal and his family just in time to defend them from the forces of Maxwell Lord.[31] Though Barda quickly dispatched Lord's men and Free made contact with their quarry, they were confronted by Orion, who had come to regret recruiting Free's help, blaming the child for New Genesis' invasion by the marauding Nyctari. While his wife and brother fought, Scott Free and his fellow New Gods—Kamal included—were suddenly empowered by the "God Surge," an unleashing of the Source performed by Highfather in New Genesis' defense.[32] Scott Free's pleas for his brother to stand down fell on deaf ears, and Orion's attack was halted only by the arrival of Superman.[33]
