Secret Origins (Volume 2) #22 is an issue of the series Secret Origins (Volume 2) with a cover date of January, 1988.
Synopsis for "No Man Escapes the Manhunters!"
The Manhunters gather for a meeting that brings together both the androids and their sleeper agents. The Grandmaster stands before them and orates the full history of their order, beginning with their creation at the hands of the Guardians of the Universe. Eventually, the Manhunters, once champions, rebelled against their creators and were cast out after their defeat following a thousand years long war. While the Manhunters regrouped across the cosmos, the Guardians created an agency of sentient peace-keeping officers to replace them who came to be known as the Green Lantern Corps.
Nearly a thousand years ago, the Manhunters came upon a primitive Earth, a planet left ignored by the Green Lanterns. Sensing a valuable resource in their future war with the Guardians, Manhunters flocked to backwater planet. Through the centuries, the Manhunters then recruited sympathetic humans and used them as sleeper agents to influence every major historical moment that followed.
Sensing the magnitude of World War II and witnessing the Guardians power on Earth for the first time, the Grandmaster enacted a plan to equip humans with the powers of a Manhunter. Thus, in the following decades Dan Richards, Paul Kirk, and Mark Shaw don the costume and name of Manhunter.
The Grandmaster finishes his retelling of their history and declares a call-to-arms for all of the Manhunters, both android and sleeper agents, to rise up.
