Chip, a young boy with a years-long obsession with Green Lantern, runs an ad to find a test pilot for his agency. Hal Jordan finds the ad and drives from Detroit. He then takes him to the desolated Oa, where he shows him the destroyed Central Power Battery. They soon encounter a group of scavengers raiding the remains of the Citadel, and they take them out of the planet. Afterward, they return to Earth.

After thinking about it for some time, Hal accepts Chip's job offer but urges him to keep his secret identity. Chip calls his associates and introduces Hal to the Elite Design Consultants, a.k.a. the "Gremlins."

Synopsis for Thomas Kalmaku: "A Piece of the Pie"

Tom Kalmaku tells his kids the story of how he met Green Lantern. Years ago, Tom's father and an associate, Jimmy Dawes, found a gold mine. Both of them made a map and split it in half, each other keeping a part. However, Tom's father died shortly of a decease. Tom decided to follow Jimmy's trail and find him in Coast City, while he also worked as a mechanic in Ferris Aircraft. There, a couple of thugs assaulted him and stole the map. In the middle of that incident Tom met Hal Jordan, who was a bit cold at first, giving him the nickname "Pieface." Green Lantern then appeared to Tom and offered his help, probing his mind to rebuild the stolen map from his memories. They followed the map and found the thugs in the gold mine, where Tom deduced Green Lantern's secret identity was Hal Jordan. From that point, Tom became Green Lantern's confidant, keeping track of their adventures together.
