Synopsis for "Book One: The Pilgrimage of Lucas Hart. Epilogue: A Moving Prayer"
Lucas Hart follows up a recommendation from his girlfriend Rhonda and drives to the home of author Viola Clark to learn more about The Magician.
She invites him in and tells him the story of how she met The Magician in 1931. As she recounts the story, she becomes enchanted by the rain outside, and memories of her old life as a dancer. She tells him that she is exhausted and invites him to spend the night.
The next day, the two take a walk in the rain and she recounts the last time she saw The Magician, in California, 1969. It inspires her to dance in the rain one last time.
Lucas decides to remain for three weeks until Viola dies with him by her side. The ghost of The Magician welcomes her to the afterlife.
