Synopsis for Sargon: "The Riddle of the Disobedient Gun"
At his latest performance, Sargon uses a levitating gun in a trick, which a crook thinks would be extremely useful in his line of work and pockets it when Sargon isn't looking. After the show, Sargon, gets his latest payment in cash, as per his insistence. Hearing Max's loose tongue mention his worries about walking around with so much money, Rusty Reeves mugs Sargon for his money. The sorcerer commands Reeves' gun to melt like wax, but nothing happens and the crook gets away.
Sargon is vexed at the realization that his magic powers have stopped working. When Max points out the magic gun is missing, Sargon tries using his magic to call it to himself. Ironically, the thief who stole the gun is trying to rob Reeves, who promptly robs him instead when he suddenly finds himself unarmed when Sargon's magic powers succeed in drawing the weapon back to its owner. This only confuses Sargon, since the prop gun obeying his command to return shows his powers haven't deserted him, so why didn't they work when Reeves attacked him?
Meanwhile, Reeves' wife disapproves of resorting to crime to earn his livelihood. She sends him to return the money he stole (minus the $40 they need to pay bills, though), and in walking the streets he finds Max going to get a newspaper and tries to force Sargon's pay on the little man. Flying to his friend's rescue on a magically-propelled end table, Sargon knocks Reeves down, and finds out why his magic didn't work before: Reeves wasn't really threatening him with a gun, it was a lead pipe he was faking to be a gun. Since he isn't a career criminal but only stealing out of desperation, Sargon promises to get him honest work.
