Synopsis for "Drive by Derby"

In the streets of New York, Shilo Norman is surrounded by menacing cars in what is dubbed the "Drive by Derby". Metron appears in the form of a wheelchair bound man, and explains that he and the Black Racer are testing Shilo, as the two believe they need to prepare him for his eventual confrontation with Darkseid. Shilo is able to outsmart the assailants and escape, while Metron believes that Shilo is "Freedom's Spirit" and the last hope to save the New Gods. Black racer replies, stating that Shilo has the last Mother Box, and that he hopes Darkseid won't get his hands on it.

Shilo returns to the streets and finds the homeless Metron, but he doesn't respond to Shilo. Suddenly, a large African-American man pushes Shilo away from Metron, telling him to get lost. Shilo exclaims that he wants answers, and that he has a Mother box, which catches the attention of the man. The man takes Shilo to "The Barracks", an abandoned construction site where a group of homeless people live. Shilo takes out his Motherbox, and it reveals that the homeless people are actually the reincarnations of the New Gods, who had fallen to Earth after the "War in Heaven".

A car approaches causing the Gods to scatter, as the black man tells Shilo that they "can't let him see us."

Shilo tells this to Doctor Dezard, who simply interprets the tale as Shilo possibly having neurological damage after his last stunt. Dezard asks Shilo if he can take look at his Motherbox, but Shilo rebuffs him.

Later, Dezard talks to someone on the phone, describing how Shilo has the last Motherbox and how he will take it from him. Dezard hands the phone to one of his patients, and the voice whispers the Anti-Life Equation; the voice belonging to Darkseid. Darkseid thanks Dezard for bringing Shilo to his attention, and states that he will take it from here.
