The Shadowpact is a mixed group of heroes with different abilities, who rescued the survivors from the Anti-Living after the spread of the Anti-Life virus.
History
The Shadowpact was formed sometime after John Constantine's failed attempt at stopping the Anti-Life virus under a group of heroes led by Mister Terrific. The group, led by the Detective Chimp Bobo T. Chimpanzee, rescued survivors from across the globe and brought them to Poison Ivy's jungle in Gotham City for safe haven. Five years into their mission, they went to rescue the survivors protected by the recently killed Arsenal in Chicago, and successfully killed the infected Fire.[1]
As they dealt with the horde of Anti-Living, the Swamp Thing Alec Holland, came to Constantine asking for help. Constantine reminded how they were surrounded by the Anti-Living, with Alec quickly disposing of the undead in return. He told Constantine that there was a garden in Australia, which he wanted him to examine together. As he started to make morbid jokes, Alec angrily told him to shut up, surprising the others. He told him that the garden in Australia was screaming out to him and he should come with him, so he doesn't kill the humans there in anger. Constantine agreed, deputing Ravager and Red Hood to take the survivors to Ivy's jungle, while telling the others to come with him.[1]
Alec took the Shadowpact members to an Australian bunker surrounded by hellfire, the Anti-Living and an apparent blood moat. Red Hood and Ravager successfully reached Gotham, reuniting with the Justice League and their former allies, who arrived soon after. In Australia, Blue Devil advised they turn back. Bobo however rejected the suggestion, stating the people in the bunker needed their help. As Zatanna casted a spell to help them fly to the bunker, Bobo soon realized the blood moat was actually the infected Plastic Man, who quickly pounced on them. Ragman soon fell and Blue Devil was killed while rescuing Zatanna.[1]
Swamp Thing protected the surviving members from being swallowed by Plastic Man, by enveloping them in a giant ball made of plants. After Zatanna recovered, Bobo and Constantine had her cast Plastic Man into the hellfire. As they mourned their losses, Constantine told them that they should get out of there quick, since they were surrounded by the undead. The alert Bobo quickly noticed mounted machine guns coming out of the bunker and told everyone to get down. As the machine guns fired at the Anti-Living, the Penguin told them on the loudspeaker that they could come in or die outside.[2]
Inside the bunker, they learnt how many of the rich survivors had gathered there, while making the less affluent ones work for them in return for shelter, something that sickened everyone. Constantine was taken aside by Jason Blood and warned by Etrigan that Trigon was coming to wipe away life, as the Anti-Life virus had prevented the humans souls from going to Hell. Swamp Thing, accompanied by Zatanna and Bobo, soon came upon the Floronic Man who was being tortured and experimented upon for producing food. Alec lashed out in anger, leading to the bunker's guards battling with him and Shadowpact. Max Lord was killed by Swamp Thing after refusing to do what he told him.[2]
Constantine teleported the Shadowpact and Alec to Gotham after they were outnumbered by Amazo androids created by Professor Ivo. Unknown to them, Ivo had created a whole army to exterminate the Anti-Living. In Gotham, the Shadowpact learned from the reconstructed Cyborg that there was a cure and Bobo figured that the New Gods must have the knowledge. After he figured out where Mister Miracle (who had been in hiding since his wife Big Barda and Constantine tried stopping the Anti-Life under Mister Terrific) was located, he and Constantine convinced him to help them, informing him he could cure his wife.[2]
Constantine also stole Madame Xanadu's crystal ball capable of telling the future, in order to use it as a bait to steal the Mobius Chair from Metron and find a cure. Returning to Gotham, he, Mister Miracle and Bobo told the others of their plan. Jon Kent asked anyone who could handle space for accompanying them and after assembling his team, went to New Genesis and then later to Apokolips. Though Shadowpact's plan failed, Metron still agreed to allow them the use of Mobius Chair in exchange for use of Madame Xanadu's crystal ball, enabling Cyborg to learn about the cure.[3]
