Sharon Powell is a Smallville citizen and the mother of the metahuman Derek Powell.
History
Sharon Powell grew up in Smallville where, in 1994, she gave birth to her son, Derek.
After Morgan Edge hired her son to work for him in New Carthage he disappeared. Shortly before he vanished she only received a voice message from Derek saying he believed he was in trouble.
Blaming Edge for losing his son, Sharon went to the Smallville Gazzette to ask Chrissy Beppo and Lois Lane to search for Derek. However, after she returned home, she was attacked by Subjekt-11, a metahuman assassin who worked for Morgan Edge: before he could murder her, Sharon was rescued by Superman who made the assassin escape.[1]
Days later, Derek returned home, telling his mother he had been in a coma after an accident; then, the couple went back to Smallville to express her gratitude to Chrissy and Lois. However, the two journalists asked him more questions about his disapperance but Sharon refused to believe that Derek was hiding something from her.
After Derek burned an entire building, he was left shocked, upsetting Sharon: eventually, Derek left his mother a message, saying he was leaving the city.[2]
Sharon (correctly) believed the Department of Defence knew what had really happened to her son and went to a public meeting to demand General Lane tell her the truth.[3]
