My life started the day I packed a trash bag and walked out the door. I thought I was being thrown away. But instead... I found everything.
Shazam! (Volume 5) #21 is an issue of the series Shazam! (Volume 5) with a cover date of May, 2025. It was published on March 5, 2025.
Synopsis for "Shazam The Finale!"
Mr. Mind continues spreading his infection throughout the people of Earth and boasts that nobody can stop him now. He asks Beautia about Doug, the man who pretended to be her father, and Beautia replies that he has been infected, as well. He agreed to pretend to be Beau's father in exchange for information on his real daughter, the girl that had led Freddy to the Amber Lightning. That girl, Evil Eye, believed her latent magic powers made her a monster, which is why she sought the Monster Society. She believed they would accept her for what she was.
Mind explains that only half of his essence was left in the Amber Lightning. The other half was left buried in the corpse of his oldest human host and that is how he met Beautia. While the other members of the Society keep themselves entertained with their victims, Mind orders the capture of Billy and Freddy, who are still resisting the invasion. Mind's robots seal the boys' mouths with magic and brings them to the Society's tower, where Mind plans to keep the boys hostage until the Justice League arrives and he can possess them, as well. Billy is shocked to learn that Beautia is aligned with Mind and Beautia admits that she didn't lie about everything she told, only that she cared about him.
Luckily, Freddy has gained control over the bond he and Mind shared through the Amber Lightning and forces him to release Freddy and Billy. With his mouth free, Billy says that Mind is a monster not because he is a freaky alien, but because he thinks himself to be better than anyone else. In that moment, Mary returns to to the Society towers with help from Hoppy, just as Georgia reveals herself to be unaffected by Mind. Billy and Freddy transform and the fight begins.
United, the Shazam Family defeats the individual members of the Society, while Eugene and Pedro hack into the Society's app and liberate its users from Mind's control. Isolated to his last human host, Mind attempts to escape only for his human host to be vaporized by Georgia, who captures him and Beautia for whatever she has planned next.
Billy visits his mother and explains to her that when she left, he was confused and scared over what might happen to him. Even after all this time, he still thinks of her as his family, but the Vasquezes are his family, too, and he doesn't want to leave them. Marilyn accepts Billy's choice and gives him a photo he can add to his family album.
Through his experiences with his family and his enemies, Billy has learned that the opposite of hate isn't love because love is complicated. Instead, the opposite of hate is acceptance. To overcome hate, people need to accept their own flaws and that things have a beginning and an end. Billy's new family accepted him, for all his flaws, just like the Shazam Family has accepted that to save the world, they first have to save the people in it, one kid at a time.
