Quote1 We try so hard to change the ones we love. If it's any comfort, it took me a lifetime to see the futility in that. Hey... I know it hurts, but don't use it as an excuse to hide away in here. And I'm not just saying that beacuse there's a descomposing body down the hall. Quote2

Doctor Silas Stone is the strict and controlling father of Vic Stone who turned him into the superhero Cyborg to save his life after an explosion. A former S.T.A.R. Labs scientist, he used his abilities to keep Vic under his thumb, but as he saw how much that hurt their relationship, he softened a bit to be more easy-going and regularly assisting him on his adventures with the Doom Patrol.

Creation of Cyborg

In his youth, Silas Stone became a respected scientist, befriending the immortal scientist Niles Caulder and joining S.T.A.R. Labs, where he fell in love with the scientist Elinore, whom he married. In 1996, Silas and Elinore conceived a son, Victor, who was treated strictly and lovingly for his safety, and Vic had problems with Silas because he was working and not concentrating on his soccer games. On one occasion, Silas tried to go to his son's game, but was harassed by a security guard.[1][2]

Discussion about the creation of Cyborg

When Elinore and Vic suffered an accidental explosion at home, Silas cried for his family, however, he could use cybernetic technology for both of them, and Niles convinced him to save Vic, since Elinore would have wanted it that way, so he accepted, putting robotic parts on Vic, and refusing to wear a synthetic skin on him because it was experimental. After the operation, Silas ended his friendship with Niles for forcing him to put robotic parts on his son, refusing to take Vic with his other experiments to his manor, calling out Niles for ruining strangers' lives, and implanting false memories into Vic to protect him from the truth about his mother. With Vic now empowered, Silas trained him to become a vigilante superhero named Cyborg and gave him Grid, an artificial intelligence. On one occasion, Silas asked Niles for help with a new eye for Vic and gradually regained their friendship over time.[1][3][4][5]

Silas argues with Vic about his decisions

In 2019, Silas learned of Vic's successful rescue of a woman who was going to be assaulted or killed, calling his son to talk to him and Silas was not so impressed because it took 57 seconds, scolding Vic, asking him to be better, which Vic agreed, before closing the call. The next day, Silas discovered that Vic was not on earth, so he headed to Cloverton, at Niles's manor, and found his son with Niles's patients. Silas argued with his son, discovering that Niles had been kidnapped, which he didn't care about because there was always a way back, refusing Vic to stay to look for him, since his work in Detroit was important to honor Eleanore, but Vic insisted on stay, angering Silas that Vic was full of slime, promising to make him better, which he refuses, leaving Silas to go home alone.[1]

When Vic asked Silas for a jet with the destination to travel to Paraguay in search of a clue to find Niles with the team, Silas refused to give it to him because he would not use it to return home, arguing about independence, and told his Vic that you must use your own resources to achieve it. Later, Silas sent a jet to pick up Vic and his friends from Paraguay, promising Vic that he would always be there for him, though Vic closed the call, wanting to be independent from his father.[6]

Talk from one parent to another

Silas received an alert message from Vic, traveling back to the manor to help him in his destroyed parts, deciding to put it on sleep mode to update it for 3 hours, and they both realized that he was missing a finger, deciphering that it was inside of Cliff Steele, Niles's robotic patient. While Vic was in sleep mode, Silas talked to Cliff about the explosion that caused Vic to be damaged, learning that it was to save them from Mister Nobody, the villain who kidnapped Niles, and worried about his son, claiming for his action, but Cliff defended his friend for being a hero, getting angry at Silas for being a bad father, just like him. Thoughtful at Cliff's advice, Silas woke Vic after giving him better ones, promising never to intrude on his privacy again, sharing a hug. Silas was again called by Vic to discuss how he turned off his normal notifications, including Cazh, a dating app, and considered the messages a waste of time.[7][8]

Weeks later, Silas returned to the manor to talk to Vic about getting out of the system, discovering from his roommates that Vic had disappeared, so he began to investigate and learned that Vic had desperately disabled Grid, which he group considered stress from their strict father. Silas learned from Larry Trainor, a man with a negative spirit, that Vic was kidnapped by the Bureau of Normalcy, an agency tasked with trapping oddities, and failed to enlist the help of some friends in the government to free his son, so he decided to take a more illegal way, which was to infiltrate the Ant Farm, the bureau's scientific base. With the group's help, Silas outlined a plan that involved being captured to start an escape from the inside, and Silas would pretend to be the one who caught them, leaving Rita Farr, an ex-actress with gelatinous powers, to enter Cliff and free everyone.

During his life in Detroit, Silas was walking through the park, where he was found by Vic and Cliff, who asked for his help to improve his body, adding new improvements to be able to feel and overcome Niles, since he was dying, but Silas refused to. do so, regretting what happened to Cliff, stating that if he helped him improve his robot body, he would be Niles's accomplice, clarifying that Vic's transformation was surgery to save her, but what Niles did to Cliff was involuntary manslaughter.[4][10]

Later, Silas found himself working at S.T.A.R. Labs, being called by Vic, who demanded answers about the sale of cyber technology to the military by S.T.A.R. and Caulder Robotics, Niles' robotics company, surprising Silas, who learned that Vic was carrying out this investigation for Roni Evers, a war veteran who became his girlfriend, mentioning that he was looking to help her. Trying to avoid the topic, Silas showed his pride in Vic and Roni's relationship, advising him to take things calmly, but Vic, without getting convincing answers, decided to talk to Niles. After Roni used the uma jelly for terrorist attacks against Quorum, Silas, after learning of Niles' death, talked to Vic about his break-up, advising him that not all people can change and told him that there are people who If you can help, advice that Vic used to confront Roni.[11][12]

Reprimanded for his poor choices

Because Vic was shown indirectly helping Roni escape, Silas had no choice but to shut down Vic's technology, preventing him from being tracked by S.T.A.R. Labs, who named Vic a criminal, angering Vic because the technology was also a part of him, being defenseless against the threats he faced. Days later, Silas ended up being fired by S.T.A.R. after Roni's escape, being invited to the manor, discovering that Vic was repairing a time machine, before arguing over his decisions, scolding Vic for the act, revealing that he had lost his job. After the scolding, Silas heard that Vic had briefly gone to the afterlife, meeting with Elinore, who indirectly told him that there was another way to save him, causing Silas to confess about the synthetic skin, which caused Vic to reprimand Silas for not choosing that option and left the manor after their discussion.[13][3]

Reconnecting with Vic

Remorseful for the argument, Silas turned off Vic's locator to prevent S.T.A.R. Labs from tracking him, reconnecting his technology, happily informing Vic of the news, apologizing for not granting him the synthetic skin, but Vic was grateful for being saved by him. Days later, Silas was contacted by his former colleague and friend, the doctor Chalmers, about Vic's surgery on his synthetic skin, so Silas headed to Orsus Labs, before becoming a victim of the Eternal Flagellation, being forced to see his past and recognize his mistakes to move forward, meeting with Vic after the Flagellation.[14][2][15]

Discussion after Surgery

After Vic's surgery, Silas saw his son gain joy from not possessing cybertechnology, leading Silas to remember all the times Vic went to the hospital in his childhood, the first being in his childhood, the second during his football game, and the third where he had to turn him into Cyborg to turn him into someone who couldn't be harmed, scolding Vic for making decisions lightly. In defense, Vic became angry with Silas again for not seeing him as his son, highlighting his mistakes in seeing him only as a vigilante and for being so overprotective, assuming that Silas did not want to see him after the surgery, deciding to start living as the man he was born to be, leaving Silas crying as he remembers his past mistakes.[2]
