Simon Choe is a Metahuman and former soldier, who took the name Psylosimon after manifesting fungus-based powers and being taken in by the Doom Patrol.

History

Once a United States Military technical sergeant stationed at General Blanche's underground installation, Simon Choe's Metahuman nature—manifesting as a psychedelic purple fungus—was triggered by the Lazarus Rain, leading his fellow soldiers to turn on him. Choe's fungus cocooned those near him and subsequent forces deployed by Blanche, prompting the general to contact the Doom Patrol, heroes dedicated to safeguarding the Metahuman community. Though the fungal manifestations of the fears of Choe's victims initially held the team at bay, they were vulnerable to the radioactive body of Negative Man, who took the opportunity to reach out and offer Choe a place with the Doom Patrol despite Blanche's protestations.

Relocating to the team's Kansas headquarters The Shelter, Choe struck up a conversation with Negative Man while training in its gymnasium, agreeing to call him by his codename on the condition that he use Choe's newly-conceived identity of "Psylosimon." Choe joined Flex Force, a trainee team under the leadership of Flex Mentallo, and used his powers to neutralize Robotman and Elasti-Woman in a capture-the-flag exercise against the Doom Patrol. The game was interrupted by an attack from the Brotherhood of Evil, whose member Plasmus cornered Choe and his allies with his burning touch.
