Sirens are an immortal race of singing temptresses that were turned into trees by Aphrodite to stop their killing of sailors.

History

Earth-Two

The tree made from one of their number, Parthenope, was later carved into a bracelet, through which Parthenope could transfer her powers to the wearer. This wooden armlet was bought by the murderous Mona Menise who used these powers to ramp up her attempts to murder Wonder Woman.

A Siren from Prime Earth

This is a story told to Wonder Woman by her mother when she was a child. A woman had been in love with a painter since they were children, but the painter only had eyes for her lover, a fisherwoman. The woman was unsuccessful in winning the painter's love, so she killed her and threw her body into the sea. The fisherwoman followed her into the waves, and drowned.

The Gods punished the murderer with an everlasting and solitary life, watching the happiness of others and suffering for it. Prevented from even taking her own life to extinguish the curse and shunned by the other villagers, jealousy and hatred changed her, turning her into a monster on the outside just as she was within: big, yellow eyes, sharp teeth, claws and a long fish tail similar to a mermaid.

Although the monster was not initially known by a name, because she attracted her victims with a seductive and hypnotic singing voice, she was associated with the sirens of mythology, and her song was known as the siren song.[1]
