Synopsis for "Out of the Cold"

Holden Carver is hold up in a building with police surrounding outside. As he tries to figure out how to escape, he thinks back to how he got into this situation.

Earlier, Holden had a meeting with his boss, Tao. Tao believes there is a spy in his organization and wants Holden to go investigate Simon Sandford, Codename: The Nihilist. Tao is purposely sending the two men on an assignment so Holden can watch him. But Holden knows who the spy is, it's himself. He was placed by John Lynch, who currently lies in a coma, in Tao's organization. Now Holden has to figure out how to deal with this without letting Sanford take the spy accusation.

Holden sits at a bar, thinking about how Lynch augmented him, giving him powers. Just then, Genocide Jones comes and sits next to Holden. He's known Jones for several years and has seen him brutally beat people with his super strength. Sanford enters the bar and identifies himself to Holden. The two men head out to their assignment.

As they stake out an International Triad building, Sanford asks Holden how he got into Tao's organization. As Holden tells him, he remembers how Lynch orchestrated it so Holden would look like a defector to Tao's side in order to get him in the organization. He also remembers how he got involved with an artifact from The Bleed. The two men then burst into the building and begin taking out Triad members and destroying their equipment. Holden thinks the mission will be easy until he catches Sanford copying information from the Triad computers and realizes he is a spy.

As Holden attacks Sanford he recalls how Lynch told him that once Carver touched the artifact from The Bleed, he somehow absorbed it and it attached to his nervous system. It allows Carver to not feel pain and to store that pain and use it against others; thus gaining him the Codename: The Conductor. It's this ability that he uses to kill Sandford.

After escaping, Holden heads to a strip club to meet Genocide Jones for a drink.
