Synopsis for "Four-Sided Triangle"
Around 3:00 A.M., Tao's people are gunned down by John Lynch's I.O. agents. In the midst of the shootout is an assassinated United Nations official and a shape-shifter, Mr. Barker, who was disguised as a U.N. official as per Tao's orders. Holden Carver is watching the carnage from a nearby building with Miss Misery. After Misery sees what is happening, she attempts to intervene but Holden stops her, revealing that the entire shootout was part of another action between Lynch and Tao. But Misery is not part of the plan.
In a flashback, Tao had intended to let his plan of replacing the U.N. official fail at the cost of his men's lives. The plan was influenced from Holden's discoveries to Tao, which he explains that Lynch wanted to receive some positive favors from his superiors in busting a mission forged by Tao. Which includes a traitor for being responsible for the foil and be discover by Tao. This matter would allow Tao to spy on one of I.O.'s spy satellites watching the entire action and be in turn being monitor by their actions, forcing Tao to handpick Mr. Barker to be the patsy. But unknown to either Tao and Lynch, Holden planned to escape from being manipulated as their pawn. Which is why he had chosen Miss Misery to help him by introducing her in the midst of the conflict instead of explaining it.
In the present, Holden explains to Misery of Tao's intentions. He then shows her to see what is happening. The shape-shifter is the only one left alive and is confronted by John Lynch, who gives him a suitcase. Lynch then hypnotize him to smile in a pose of the handover. Lynch and his men then leave before advising Barker to run. Having seen the "transaction" Misery receives a phone call from Tao. After hanging up, Holden deduce that he wants her to kill Barker.
Barker is in a safehouse where he is very confuse of the turn of events as he looks over millions of dollars spilled on the floor that was given to him by Lynch. Barker tries to calm himself as he tries to change his appearance but is discover by Miss Misery. Barker pleads to Misery that he is not a traitor and is set up but Misery guns him down. After dumping Barker's body where the police can find him, Misery and Holden walk together in a park as the latter tells her about the conflict between Tao, Lynch and himself, and the reason he needs her help. Initially, Misery is reluctant to aid Holden against her employer and Lynch, but ultimately agrees in Holden's cause. But from Holden's perspective, most of his words to Misery was half the truth.
