When Jonathan and Martha Kent found Clark's rocket ship, Smallville was suddenly stormed by a massive blizzard that lasted for months, this gave time to the Kents to come up with an excuse for how they finally had a child.

30 years later, it was reveled that this blizzard was actually not a coincidence, in fact an ancient android race called Manhunters were monitoring Krypton and saw Jor-El's plan to take Kal-El to safety. Knowing how powerful a Kryptonian would be under a yellow sun, they chased off after baby Kal-El but they were stopped by the Green Lantern Corps, they tried to use a atmospheric inducer satellite to alter the climate which caused the blizzard.

Unhappy with their failure, the Manhunters implemented a plan that would allow them to gang-stalk Kal-El and other heroes, disguising themselves as one of Smallville's most trusted obstetrician, G.I. Whitney, allowed the androids to personally be responsible for the delivering of most babies of Smallville and insert in their brain a sleeping agent program that they could turn on at any moment to gather information. Lana Lang, Peter Ross, and hundreds other Smallville residents were involved. Thanks to the help of The Spectre and Superman they managed to stop the Manhunters and remove the programming from every citizen.[1]
