Synopsis for Rookie Rankin: "The Doomsday Giraffe"
A man's shot while trying to deliver a package, his dying words mentioning a "doomsday...giraffe...". Rankin's nearby and collects the package as evidence, but loses it when investigating a lady in distress only to be clubbed over the head by a hood. When Rankin investigates the body at the morgue, he finds a giraffe statuette, and then a gunman who'd been pretending to be a corpse springs up and tries to get it, but is shot by someone in the door. Rankin runs outside and runs into the lady from before, who leads him to where the gunman ran. She and him are in cahoots, though, and also want the giraffe statuette. It turns out all the black spots are on it are rare black diamonds, which was why people were willing to kill for it. The gunman turns on the girl, and Rankin pretends to faint so he can literally pull the rug out from under his opponent, then shoots the gun out of the woman's hand when she tries to hold him off.

Synopsis for The Jester: "The Art Gallery Murder"
An art gallery employee was murdered by thieves in pursuit of "The Red Sunset", a picture worth $200k. Chuck Lane hangs around to see if the perps come back for any other pickings. He catches two other known criminals eying the artwork a little too closely and knocks them out as the Jester, but is convinced the two of them could never be the masterminds behind such a grandiose theft. Indeed, the real thief turns out to be the gallery own, Deegan. When he sneaks in to steal the gallery's next most valuable painting, "The King and His Fool", it turns out to be a hollow in the wall the Jester and McGinty are posing inside to catch him by surprise.
