Sofia Gigante (née Falcone) is the calculating and erratic daughter of Carmine Falcone. After being wrongly incarcerated in Arkham State Hospital for a decade, she rose to power as head of the Gigante Crime Family in a gang war in Gotham City, coming into conflict with her own family and the Penguin.
History
Early life
Young Sofia
Sofia Falcone was born to the sadistic and cruel kingpin, Carmine Falcone, and his wife, Isabella Gigante, and spent her youthful years with her older brother, Alberto. At age nine, Sofia entered her mother's room, discovering that she was hanged with a rope and was suddenly comforted by Carmine, who made her believe that Isabella apparently committed suicide, although Sofia noticed that her mother had injuries, as did her father, realizing that Carmine was the one who killed her mother.[2][3][4]
In honor of her mother, Sofia started the Isabella Falcone Foundation as a way to donate to and help women with mental illness, but deep down, Sofia struggled with the trauma of her mother's death. Part of the Falcone Crime Family, Sofia formed a close friendship with her father's new driver, Oswald Cobb, who was rudely referred to as "the Penguin", but Sofia always defended him above all else, and placed her genuine trust in him. Unlike the rest of her family who did not take kindly to her, Sofia was constantly protected by Alberto.[2][5]
