Solomon Grundy is a zombie who resurrects on Halloween.
History
During the initial construction of Gotham City, three corrupt business owners (Bolton, Winslow, and Parrish) dumped industrial waste into a lake outside the city, creating Slaughter Swamp.
According to legend, among the workers driven out of their homes by this environmental destruction were a cult of magical practicioners. They performed a ceremony to create Solomon Grundy, an unstoppable being formed from the mire of the swamp, to get revenge on the three businessmen. It was said that he would return on "Grundy's Night" (Halloween coinciding with a lunar eclipse). 150 years later, during the next Grundy's Night, it appeared Solomon Grundy did indeed rise again to rob the descendants of the three businessman. It was revealed to be Clayface taking advantage of the legend as a cover for his crimes. As a pair of trick-or-treaters waited by the swamp, giving up on their hopes of seeing Grundy, the water bubbled ominously and a figure began to rise from the muck.[1]
