"Specs" was an intelligent member of the explorer group the Pioneers of the Uncharted. After his death, his body was manipulated by benevolent space spores for decades.

Specs and the Pioneers were sent on their mission to investigate immortality in space in 1955. However, Caulder lost contact with the Pioneers in the 1960s and assumed they perished.

Sometime during their mission, Specs and his co-explorer Zip did die, leaving only their last teammate Moscow alive. The corpses were then infected by alien spores while in space, seemingly resuscitating them as mindless versions of their former selves until the spores died off.

In the present, Moscow brought the Pioneers' ship back to Earth to lay Specs and Zip's bodies to rest.[1]
