Speedy is a talented archer and vigilante. He has acted as an ally to the Teen Titans and a rival to their leader Robin.
History
Joining the Teen Titans
In one version of the Teen Titans origin story, Robin reached out to Speedy and invited him to audition for the new team as he formed it in Jump City. Speedy accepted and, along with Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Bumblebee, were chosen to be the first incarnation of the Teen Titans. However, the members did not like Robin as their leader and voted to kick him off his own team.
Eventually, Robin returned with a new team of Titans - four heroes he had initially rejected - and challenged Speedy and the other Titans to a series of challenges for control of Titans Tower. In the end, Robin and his Titans cheated their way into Titans Tower anyway and, deciding it wasn't worth it to contest them, Speedy and the remaining heroes decided to form their own team on the east coast called Titans East. [1]
In another version of the story, Robin briefly considered inviting Speedy to the team when searching for the Titans' first member but considered him too boring. He ultimately chose to reach out to Cyborg instead. [2]
Modern Adventures
After the Teen Titans were established, Speedy asked Starfire out on a date, which she accepted. Robin, her frequent love interest, became insatiably jealous and secretly kidnapped and impersonated the archer in order to ruin the date. Speedy eventually escaped and confronted Robin in the Boy Wonder's own costume, causing the two to confront each other at the restaurant "Speedy" and Starfire were at. At the conclusion, Starfire decided not to date either of the men and instead left with the omniscient narrator. [3]
