History
The Stadtgeist is somehow connected to Doctor Charles Quinton, and the children he treated in Arkham Asylum. Some of Quinton's patients were later recruited into the Stadtgeist as adults.
One of their operatives went rogue and began murdering Quinton's former patients, leaving a distinctive pattern of puncture wounds on the body. At the same time another of their agents, a man known only as Crytoon, drew the attention of Batman, one of Quinton's patients who had grown up to become a vigilante. Batman's attempts to stop Crytoon resulted in him being arrested by the Gotham City Police Department. The Stadtgeist sent three police officers on their payroll to kill Crytoon before he could reveal anything about their organisation, but he murdered them and escaped.
Before vanishing, Crytoon gave the police a symbol matching the clock on the outside of the Townsend Hotel, the Stadtgeist's headquarters. Batman went to the hotel and fought his way past the guards on the rooftop, crashing through a skylight into the chamber behind the clock where the Stadtgeist were waiting for him.
