Trivia
- Ambrose Bierce refers to Native Americans as Indians, and supposedly the house of the Dovers was site of an Indian village, with Stanley's monster as their protective spirit dog. The monster mistakes this supposed tribe as inhabitants from India ("I miss those far-off days! Eating curry and charming snakes...").
