Six months since the universe is saved from the Nekron incident, the Lanterns are stranded in the Star Trek universe and are unable to return to their home. Meanwhile, the heroes adjust to acclimating to their new lives without having to worry about super-villains and world-ending crisis's. Hal Jordan, Carol Ferris, and Saint Walker join the USS Enterprise in tracking down their enemies while the Green Lanterns Kilowog, Guy Gardner, and John Stewart chose to stay on Earth and teaching Starfleet's power ring users. However, as a consequence of the Lanterns being pulled into this new universe it has left them without their power batteries, which allowed them to charge their rings. They were given a temporary boost by the last Guardian of the Universe, Ganthet, to defeat Nekron, but without being able to recharge, their rings are losing power.
The Enterprise and their Lantern allies Hal and Star Sapphire attempt to evacuate a Federation space station before it's destroyed by a meteor shower. But without their power batteries, the Lanterns' rings go out on them which forces Captain Kirk to have them beam back to the Enterprise. Hal and Carol recover from their wounds. Since the interim Carol has develop a "cross-reality romance" with Scotty. Hal and Kirk mull over the former's depowered ring in which Hal is despondently certain that his days as a Green Lantern are over. Uhura then notify Kirk and Hal that they have lost signal with Saint Walker, who was exploring the Beta Quadrant. Kirk then orders Sulu to pilot the Enterprise to Saint Walker's last location.
On the Klingon world of Qo'noS, Sinestro bemoans over his ring's inevitable power loss and is becoming increasingly dissatisfied of ruling the Klingons. Sinestro's restlessness is soon abated when Klingon soldiers brings in Saint Walker before him.
The Enterprise arrive at the planet where Saint Walker was last seen. A ground team including Kirk, Hal, and Spock explore the planet and detect an anomaly. To their surprise, they find the remains of a Manhunter. Closer examination of the Manhunter by Spock reveals that the robot is several years old. Meaning that it never came to the Star Trek universe during the Nekron crisis. They are then suddenly encounter by the armed arrival of Sinestro and his Klingon minions.
