History

Pre-Crisis

Starhaven is believed to have been founded by 23rd Century Native Americans, emigrating from Earth. Early on in the colonization of the planet, the colonists were bio-engineered with wings and the ability to survive in outer space without oxygen or protection. Thus, the native inhabitants, like Dawnstar, are born with a pair of large feathered wings that allow them to fly at supersonic speeds, faster than the speed of sound.

Starhaven itself is located in the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy.[1] It is a lush planet, and a world with little industrialization, where inhabitants prefer to live in harmony with its natural wonders.

Post-Crisis

In Earth's past, a tribe of Anasazi Indians were taken, with or without their consent, to this world by a group of Athranian genetic engineers, who hoped to use them for lucrative testing. However, the Athranians were overthrown by the Spider Guild, by fair means or foul, and so the Anasazi tribe were left to their own devices. The genetic experiments endowed them with wings.[2]

Starhaven is governed by a Council of Elders, representing each of the Amerind tribes. The planet has a totally unspoiled environment and the government severely restricts visitors to ensure the planet's continued conservation.
