Bent Out of Shape is an episode of season 1 of Static Shock. It premiered on January 27, 2001.
Synopsis for "Bent Out of Shape"
Virgil Hawkins, Richie Foley, Daisy Watkins, and Sharon Hawkins wait in line at the Dance Floor concert hall to see Stringer's concert. Unfortunately, the tickets sell out before they can get in. Sharon reveals that she has an inside connection with Stringer and gets a VIP pass plus guests.
She introduces them to Stringer, who reveals they are dating, leaving Virgil dumbfounded. Stringer lets the group know to find their seats before the concert starts. Virgil and Richie stop at the food cart back stage where they overhear Stringer insist on the fireworks over Mario the Effects Technicians concerns. During the show, the fireworks cause a fire and in the ensuing panic to escape, Virgil slips away to make an appearance as Static. He uses his super-powers to open a hole in the wall and evacuate the remainder of the concertgoers. Static confronts Stringer, and comes to discover that Stringer is actually Rubber-Band Man who has escaped from prison. Rubber-Band Man makes his escape, swearing he will reveal Static's secret identity in revenge.
Elsewhere, Puff and Onyx are digging for scraps outside of a restaurant. Puff complains that they aren't superheroes or even super-villains like other Bang Babies when she sees that there's a reward for the capture of Rubber-Band Man.
Back home, Robert Hawkins is fending off reporters and trying to comfort his daughter, Sharon. Virgil upsets his sister even further, and his father scolds him before tending to Sharon. As Static, he searches for Rubber-Band Man, failing to notice his disguises as various everyday objects.
Rubber-Band Man attacks Static, and even manages to remove his mask. Before he can discover Static's identity, however, the dueling pair are attacked by Puff and Onyx. Puff and Onyx overpower the already weary Static, leaving him unconscious to pursue the fleeing Rubber-Band Man.
Rubber-Band Man makes his way back to Sharon's home, where she convinces him to do the right thing and turn himself in and even to try to get over his anger. Robert has a friend on the police force, Captain Fitz, with whom Robert thinks he can make a deal. Before the deal is reached, Virgil and Richie come home. Virgil intends to apologize to Sharon, but she tries to excuse herself and hide the disguised Rubber-Band Man. Eventually, he is discovered, but Sharon explains that they have a plan for him to turn himself in.
Unknown to the group, Puff and Onyx watch and listen from a "borrowed" surveillance van outside. Worried that they will lose their bounty, Puff poses as an officer from Captain Fitz' office. Virgil recognizes her from their earlier battle, and slams the door in her face, over his sister's protests. Onyx smashes the door down, and the two threaten Sharon and the other civilians if Rubber-Band Man doesn't come with them. During the imbroglio, Virgil discreetly uses his powers to cause a blackout in the house, and Rubber-Band Man escapes with Sharon, trying to get her out of harm's way.
Thinking he has escaped the bounty-hunters, Rubber-Band Man promises Sharon he will lead them away from her. Unfortunately, Puff discovers him and uses her abilities to knock him unconscious. Static battles the pair, knocking Onyx through nearby bleachers. Unable to directly overpower her, he uses Puff's abilities against her, dissolving the support beams and bringing the bleachers down on her. Sharon finally convinces Static and Rubber-Band Man not to fight each other, and together they dig the unconscious bounty hunters from the rubble.
At the 123rd Precinct, the Hawkins family celebrates that Stringer has turned himself in to the authorities. As part of the deal, he will be moved to a safer prison, and will complete his debt to society.
