Steel attacks the sphere of clean energy, which originates from the power of Warworld. This disables Lana's powers and stabilizes her. Later, the Steelworks complex is attacked again; Silver Mist comes to steal the sphere. Steel stops him but discovers it's Shawn, who manages to escape. As a diversion during the "cleanup," Stax, Charles Walker's henchman, steals the sphere and replaces it with a fake. Later, John realizes that the sphere is causing the heat vision problems and Lana's power resurgence, and that the one he has is fake. Charles Walker experiments on the real sphere.
