Synopsis for "What Happens in Vegas"

P.H.D. is in Las Vegas to trains the city's new Post Human Division in response to the discovery of a Daemonite bunker that was conducting experiments on Daemonite/human hybrids in the Nevada test site outside of the city. It is learn from the mayor that several Daemonites had vacated the bunker and had possessed several people and are now traced to Las Vegas, which is why P.H.D. is needed.

P.H.D. begins training the new division. Fahrenheit develops an attraction for Paris, who brings her to his home outside of Las Vegas. Eventually the two slept together and Paris reveals his background. Liam grew up with his father and mother in the desert near the California border. His mother was a waitress and his father made a living on a number of illegal things, mostly selling meth. On the side, mostly as a hobby, he arranged dog fights. At the age of four, his mother vanished and taking care of the dogs became Liam's job. One day the animal services took away the dogs, and Liam ended up fighting for his father instead against his father's customers' older children which was then he had learned how to spot the weakness of any opponent. The fights were a success and continued along with the dog fights, until the day when Liam's opponent didn't show and his father got the idea to let Liam fight with his one of his dogs. Instead of the dog attacking Liam, it showed affection, and was shot by Liam's father. His father also tried to shoot Liam, but Liam got away and let the dogs loose. The dogs killed Liam's father and the men that were with him, and Liam started living alone with the dogs. He kept fighting for money until one day when he was arrested and given a choice between jail and the army. Liam chose the army and now with P.H.D. Upon finishing his story, Fahrenheit is too disturbed over what she had heard and subsequently ending her affairs with Paris.

Meanwhile, Mordecai Shaw begins working on tracing the Daemonites. He has a difficult time thinking over controlling the Monstrosity during his stay in Vegas. Shaw returns to his lab where he finds his assistant Dr. Sarah Burke killed by Lady Decadence and the disguised Daemonites. Lady Decadence tells Shaw that she had destroyed his research and berating him for "betraying" his kind. Shaw state to her that he was abandoned to cover her escape in which Lady Decadence reveals that he was left to kill the humans and return. She forces Shaw to release the Monstrosity within him before John Doran arrive and finds only Shaw in a fetal position and words scrawled in blood around him: "SEE YOU SOON".

Elsewhere, Lady Decadence returns to Lord Defile and informs him that she was able to had gained the allegiance from the Daemonites from the bunker. When Defile ask her about Stormwatch, she assures him that "everything proceeds perfectly."

  • The Daemonite bunker is referenced by Fahrenheit as being similar to StormWatch's previous discovery of a Daemonite bunker in Serbia which was seen in StormWatch #47.
