Synopsis for "Ladies' Night"

The P.H.D. are battling the Ferryman and are without having any success in stopping the entity. Fortunately, Paris removes the Ferryman's staff and allows Black Betty to bless it with holy water while quoting the Nicene Creed. As the Ferryman takes on the Greek mythological figure of Charon and the Greek Orthodox Church supplanted that mythology, the blessed staff harms the Ferryman. Betty convinces the Ferryman to return to his realm in exchange for his staff back. After getting rid of the Ferryman, Betty directs John Doran to an abandoned building and shows him the original Doomsday Clock that the Ferryman was after. She reveals the clock has become the focus of so much primal fear in regard to the threat of nuclear Armageddon during the Cold War that it acquired mystical great power; if the hands were forcibly moved to midnight, it would cause nuclear war. If the Ferryman got his hands on the clock and wiped out all life on Earth, he would have been unstoppable from absorbing the deceased. Since the barrier between dimensions has been weakened lately, the Ferryman would be strong enough to push through to other worlds and consume them as well. Betty hands the clock to Doran for safekeeping.

Sometime later, Doran gives the Doomsday Clock to Jackson King and shares his concerns for his teammates: Fahrenheit's frosty relationship with Paris; Gorgeous and the Machinist's trustworthiness; and Dr. Shaw's near-breakdown following his ordeal with the Daemonites in Las Vegas. King advises Doran to have Betty keep a watch on some of the P.H.D. members and suggests using unit integrity through socialization such as the late Jenny Sparks who used to take her teammates out on the town. Encouraged by King's advice, Doran returns to the precinct and gives the P.H.D. some R&R, except for the Machinist who is sent on an exercise and training program supervised by Paris. Doran has Betty in having a girls' night out with Gorgeous and Fahrenheit.

At Lauren's suggestion, the ladies go to Clark's Bar. There the three talk about Fahrenheit's struggle without her powers and then to Betty's relations with her mentor Jeremiah Cain, whom Gorgeous suggests that Betty is having an affair with Cain, but Betty seriously informs her friends that it is not. They are then approached by two supermen Striker and Devlin, whom Fahrenheit embarrassingly recognized from before, who offer one of them a dance. Gorgeous willingly volunteers with the duo, which quickly deteriorates as she easily beats them up after being sexually touched by Striker.

The three then leave the bar, but only to be heckled again by Striker and Devlin in which Fahrenheit is knocked in the head with a beer bottle. As Gorgeous and Fahrenheit prepare to fight, Betty ramifies the situation by showing Striker and Devlin a mystical tattoo on her chest which induces them into a catatonic state. After dealing with Striker and Devlin, the ladies finish their night out at a greasy spoon before going back to their respective homes.

Betty returns to Jeremiah Cain's residence in which it is then revealed that Cain is in a coma; his soul/consciousness had left his body for some long period of time. Betty never reveals the truth of her mentor's state to anyone as this knowledge would trigger a number of mystical attacks and invasions, and has since been waiting for Cain's soul to return to his body.
