Synopsis for "The Girl from the Diamond Planet"

At the Midwest City library, Lilly Torrance hopes to impress Adam Blake with her knowledge of astronomy but his cool demeanor causes her to run away crying. She doesn't realize that he is secretly the mutant Captain Comet and he is unable to reciprocate romantic love for common humans. That night, in the lab of Emery Zackro, Blake sees a recurring supernova and sets out in his costume and gear to investigate in the Cometeer.

Meanwhile, on the planet Hyperba, Radea is turning down the advances of a man. She is also a mutant among her people and cannot relate to them. She sees the Cometeer barreling toward a nearby diamond planet whose inhabitants are hostile and goes to save the poor soul landing there.

She finds Comet stunned by The Green Ones and saves him. As Comet comes to from the effects of their paralysis ray, he uses his mental powers to quickly defeat them. They go to her home world where she explains that the Sun Games are soon to begin: tests of physical strength, agility, and mental skill where the losers are forced to fly into their sun Vigo and detonate a nuclear weapon to keep the star from dying.

Comet volunteers to compete knowing the danger but is sabotaged by the Hyperban leader Chadro, causing him to lose. He is forced into a rocket and Radea leaps after him, causing both of them to be stranded on a death course into Vigo. Comet reveals to Radea that the warheads are timed for destruction and the missions don't need to be manned. He uses telekinesis to pull Cometeer toward them and they leap into his ship at the last moment.

Back on Hyperba, Comet deposes Chadro and reveals that he was using the games as a way to eliminate political enemies. The Hyperbans choose Radea to rule them and Comet returns to Earth having found a mental equal whom he could love; he invites her to come visit when she is not burdened with her responsibilities. At the library, he accidentally lets a locket fall from his pocket that has a photo of Radea in it and Lilly finds it, puzzled at who the woman could be.
