Synopsis for Adam Strange: "The Radioactive Peril!"

This story is reprinted from Mystery in Space #64.

A billion years ago, the hairy, sasquatch-like predecessor to modern day humans on the planet Rann had banished an evil scientist named Carlon Zan, who had planned to become dictator of the planet. Zan was sentence to exile and shot into space in a rocket. While leaving Rann he passed through a time warp that bombarded him with radiation, and transported him to present day Rann.

Days later on the planet Earth, Adam Strange is one more in the South Pacific awaiting the proper moment to intercept the Zeta-Beam to bring him to Rann. Preventing an Albatross from hitting the beam instead, Adam arrives on Rann to see that he is being approached by a glowing bird. Alanna quickly captures it in a net and gives Adam a led shield explaining that the bird had been irradiated and to touch it would be lethal. The two retreat to a lead lined bomb shelted beneath the now irradiated Ranagar City. There Alanna explains that one day Carlon Zan arrived intending to take over Rann, by irradiating everything in it's path, making them loyal to him. The people of Ranagar City managed to build a shelter beneath the city and evacuate everyone before Carlon could arrive and irradiate the whole entire city.

Examining some footage of Carlon Zan walking, Adam notices that one of the creatures footprints does not begin to glow after Carlon moved on. Realizing that some property in that patch of soil absorbed the radiation. Adam, Alanna and a some scientists return to the spot to examine the material in question. Adam leaves the scientists to synthesize the material while he keeps Carlon Zan and any of his radioactive creatures at bay.

When the scientists discover that the element that turns radioactive objects into lead is Malybium, they put it into spray guns and test it out on a radioactive bird. The test is a success and the bird turns into lead. Preparing more spray guns, Adam, Alanna and the scientists all attack Carlon Zan together, spraying the beast with the Malybium spray until the massive creature is turned into solid lead.

Now with a way to beat the radiation, the people of Ranagar City begin spraying all the infected animals and Ranagar City and plan to build a new city in it's place. During the campaign to spray all the effected animals the Zeta-Beam wears off and Adam is returned to Earth.
