Synopsis for "Mindscape"
Both Comet and Adam realize that the Weird's psyche is a symbolic representation of how he views the world around him. Adam speculates that the Weird's various resurrections has made his confused but conflicted sub-conscious extremely multifarious. Both of them see a statue of the Weird reaching to the heavens or more likely his sanity. Comet ntoices that the architecture with the Weird's psyche is a patchwork of different worlds. Adam wonders if the surroundings reflect the Weird's life experiences like the human that the Weird first resurrected. Comet tells Adam to be careful because in the Weird's psyche, the laws of physics don't apply.
Comet and Adam search for the Weird's central intellect. Adam notices a reptilian alien walking through the corridors of the Weird's psyche. Comet also points out a simian alien but Comet doesn't suspect that either of them are telepaths. Comet and Adam follow the ape alien through a portal but lose him on the other side. They enter a office building hallway where they see doors leading to misconceptions, sorrows, abstractions, dangers and lovers. Comet begins to laugh because they have entered the compartmentalization part of the Weird's psyche. Both Comet and Adam begin to question their place in the universe as well as what has happened to them in such a short time. This discussion almost becomes an argument until they reach the end of the hallway. At the end, there is a door saying "Keep Out" with a head of the Weird floating like a balloon. When they open the door, a wave of floating fish passes them by.
Both Adam and Comet notice a huge slice of pepparoni pizza. Comet suspects that the pizza represents a secret passion of the Weird or at least his human counterpart. Suddenly, the human side of the Weird Walter Langley appears and concurs with Comet's assumption. Walter confesses that he use to eat a couple slices of pizza each day which inevitably led to arterial blockage and eventually death. The Weird's psyche chose to manifest Walter in his mid-thirties in order to establish contact with Comet and Adam. Walter explains that the other aliens that Comet and Adam have seen are manifestations of the Weird's former lives thus giving the Weird a multi-faceted personality.
When the Weird/ Zarolatt merged with Walter Langley's corpse, he assisted the Justice League until his life cycle was cut short. The Weird then merged with reptilian Gaidoor who has an affinity for the floating fish. Comet didn't know any of this about the Weird after their joint resurrection but Walter explains that the simian Xaltoon suffered a traumatic termination which caused the Weird to consciously forget his past lives. His past lives still reside in his sub-conscious. Comet writes it off as a psychological form of survival suppression. Walter then introduces Adam and Comet to the Weird's past lives. Gaidoor hails from the Herculean Galaxy and was a ichthyologist which would explain the fish. Xaltoon was a decorated soldier from the Yalpraxzionicus Galaxy. The balloon shaped as the Weird's head is finally popped and reveals Zarolatt, a floating ball of energy. Zarolatt is responsible for the complexity of the Weird's psyche.
The party is then interrupted by the older version of Captain Comet. Comet is taken back by how old he was before he was killed. The older version of Comet isn't pleased by the arrival of Adam and his younger resurrected self. Adam tries to reason with the older Comet about what the Weird is doing to the stars and the dark zone. The older Comet and the Weird's past lives are well aware of what is happening on the outside but they have been debating on what to do about it. Synnar then appears before them all. Synnar is the Weird's latest past life that he has come into contact with. Synnar informs Adam and Comet that all of the Weird's past lives have failed to reach a consensus on the matter at hand.
On the outside, the Weird/ Synnar explains to Gavyn why each Aberrant Six member was chosen. The Aberrant Six represent a piece of Synnar. For Eye, she has a past that she tries to forget. As for Gavyn, he represents a possibility or a promise but he has become lost and lives in denial. Gavyn pretends that tragedy has little effect on him and he carries on when he has no empire or meaningful existence. The Weird/ Synnar offers Gavyn a chance for a new life without pain and loss if he plays his role with the Aberrant Six. Eye interrupts discussion between Gavyn and the Weird/ Synnar. Eye tells Gavyn not to listen to Synnar because all he does is lie, confuse and manipulate. The Weird/ Synnar interjects by asking if Eye has ever faced her denial which she writes off as amnesia. Eye becomes silent because she doesn't want to remember what she is denying to acknowledge.
