Synopsis for "Sugar & Spike"

A baby is born, little and cute, named (of all things) Cecil, but takes instead to the nickname his father gives him: “Spike.” His father shouts loudly sometimes, but we see it's because Spike hit him in the foot with a hammer, thinking how he needs to learn how to handle it sometime. His parents note he is attempting to talk and he is a little unnerved that he is unable to. To help this, they introduce him to another baby, Sugar, for a playdate, wherein he learns that she also can speak “Baby-Talk,” a language that only babies understand and can speak. Their parents are mildly amused at how they “talk” to each other. He offers they investigate their basement for tools to play with as she calls him “Doll-Boy.” He mocks how she isn't choosing to walk, something they've only learned how to do. Sugar points out that they can crawl further, since parents are more likely to spot a walking child. They soon head to the basement and Sugar falls into an open bucket of red paint that is set on the last step. Spike gripes that he was waiting to show her that last. Sugar revels in this feeling, since unlike water, it doesn't seem to wash off! What's more, she soon finds it's also sticky. Spike weighs down a beam over a sawhorse with a wrench and uses it to try out something he's imagined, an inclined plane he can slide down. Sugar goes to try it as Spike tries to show off the wrench, saying Daddy once filled the cellar entirely with water by using it. Lifting it, he finds that they have accidentally invented a see-saw and Spike declares this is a “making” room. He drops off the see-saw and finds Sugar has landed in a box of discarded wood shavings, which he believes are some kind of “wooden noodles.” Sugar is amused how it sticks to the paint as her father comes down, furious at Spike's father and storms off. Later though, Sugar gets a bath and thinks she loves Spike as her mother points out that she seems to be happier than ever before!

Synopsis for "Littul Snoony"

Littul Snoony is using a “Little Tot Chemical Set” to do something he tells Daffodil Cooley will make him $1,000,000! She presumes he's counterfeiting, but he says that it'll be a chemical that makes cod liver oil taste like ice cream soda! He tries to get her to try it, but even the offer of half of his million isn't enough for her to try it. He goes outside and finds the milkman is there, feeding his horse some of the chemical. The horse is energized, driving off quickly as an enraged milkman comes out, saying he's going to need to drink some just so he can go catch his horse!

Notes

Trivia

  • Littul Snoony, late of Scribbly's cancellation in Buzzy, appears here for a backup feature. Later, in Sugar and Spike# 16, he'll return with Scribbly for a Cartoon Corner, which isn't much of any story so much as an activity page with dialogue.
  • Little Snoony will never be referred to as such in any material. When he returns in his autumn years as one of the Cyclones, he has eschewed all nicknames and is revealed to have married Amelia "Sisty" Hunkel
