2016 superhero film written and directed by David Ayer. It was the first movie produced under DC Films, and centers around the origins and first mission of the titular supervillain team. The story is a loose adaptation of The Nightshade Odyssey.
Suicide Squad is aThe film was heavily reshot and re-edited during production, and while it was a box office hit thanks to its marketing campaign, it was panned by critics and audiences for its inconsistent tone, editing, and characters, though some action scenes and the performances of Margot Robbie and Viola Davis were praised.
In 2021, a standalone sequel, The Suicide Squad, was released to a much warmer reception, and was later retconned to be part of a different universe.
Synopsis for "Suicide Squad (Movie)"
A U.S. intelligence officer, Amanda Waller assembles a team of criminals and villains including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, El Diablo, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang and Slipknot to go on a mission to battle a dark powerful entity. When allowing the six villains out of the Belle Reve prison, Amanda decides to put bomb chips in their necks that can be activated with a push of a button just in case they don't obey.
