Notes

  • From the perspective of Earth 8, this story takes place after Justice League Incarnate #1, where the Retaliators were almost slaughtered by Tartarus during his Eternity Conquest.
  • Peacemaker provides information to Bloodsport that convinces him to work against Amanda Waller despite her holding his brothers as leverage. This information has never been revealed and Waller will eventually compel Bloodsport back into her service by threatening the Multiversal doppelgangers of his late brother.[1]
  • Wundajin is mispelled as Wunda Jin.

Trivia

  • There are many references to Marvel Comics in this issue:
    • The Lightning Strikes team is obviously a pastiche of the Marvel's Thunderbolts:
    • All Ambush Bug's comments about the Retaliators are nods to their Avengers counterparts:
      • Red Dragon is referred to as "a spy with a black past", which is a nod to Black Widow;
      • Purple Rain is a "witch with a vision", which is a nod to Scarlet Witch as well as her husband, Vision;
      • Wundajin is referred to as being "ready to hammer", which is clearly a nod to Thor and his hammer, Mjolnir;
      • After seeing the new American Crusader, Bug comments "Yikes", which is an interjection commonly used to express concern about Captain America.[citation needed]
    • During the clash between the Suicide Squad and the Retaliators, Ambush Bug disguises himself as Stan Lee and references Amalgam Comics.
  • Ambush Bug jokes about reading Bloodsport's words with a British accent. This is a reference to the DCEU Bloodsport being portrayed by the British actor, Idris Elba.
