Synopsis for "The Past, The Present, The Future: Chapter One"

Sixteen year old Clark Kent decides to confess two things to his best friend Lana Lang: that he is in love with her, and that he is secretly Superboy. However just as he is about to tell her, Smallville's main street is attacked by Validus, a villain from the future who he has encountered during his adventures with the Legion of Super-Heroes. Clark makes an excuse and dashes away, then changes into his costume and flies to main street with Krypto. They quickly punch Validus out of town limits into the fields and try to restrain him. A rift in space-time opens up above them and sucks Superboy and Validus in. They battle as they fall through the timestream, witnessing the past and future. Clark sees a vision of himself as an adult, with a son and a wife who is not Lana, much to his shock. Validus punches him from behind and Clark spins around to hit back, but he passes through Validus and returns back to Earth the instant he left. A mental block the Legion had placed in his mind to prevent him bringing information from the future back to the past erases the memory of his future family, but when he returns to Lana he subconsciously knows he shouldn't tell her how he feels. Years later Clark reflects that it was for the best, as it allowed them to stay friends.

Synopsis for "The Past, The Present, The Future: Chapter Two"

In the present day, Lois and Clark are in Smallville for John Henry Irons and Lana's wedding. Jonathan Kent is convinced that there is a storm coming, although all weather reports predict a clam day. Lois and Clark's super-hearing lets them overhear Lana suggesting to John Henry that they postpone the wedding, and Clark goes over to ask her what is wrong. She admits that she is worried some kind of superhero-related crisis will ruin everything. Clark assures her nothing can go wrong, but as soon as he says that a rift opens up in a field and Validus emerges, from his perspective moments after fighting Superboy all those years ago. To make matters worse the weather suddenly shifts and the storm of the century is bearing down towards Smallville.

The Super-Family spring into action to evacuate the town and try to deflect the storm as Superman fights Validus. Tornadoes rip through Smallville and level it, but thanks to the heroes nobody is killed. Validus disappears in a flash of lightning after the storm passes. Superman returns to Smallville to help with the cleanup and Natasha Irons asks if the storm was part of some kind of attack, but he reveals that the storms were a natural phenomenon caused by climate change. John Henry promises that Steelworks will fund the rebuilding of the town and also invest in green infrastructure to try and prevent such a catastrophe happening again. He and Lana decide to get married right there and then.

Synopsis for "The Past, The Present, The Future: Chapter Three"

The day after Lana and John Henry's wedding, Superman returns to the spot where Validus emerged from with Mister Terrific and Omen. Mister Terrific detects a space-time anomaly at the location and uses a gateway to reopen it. Superman reaches inside and pulls Validus out. Omen tries to make telepathic contact with him while Mister Terrific and Superman try to build a containment grid around him. Validus disappears again, but Mister Terrific detects that the rift is closed and Validus will not be returning. However, Omen warns that when she read Validus' thoughts she discovered that he was not hunting Superman, he was running from something.

Validus is pulled back to the 30th Century, landing amidst rubble and the bodies of his Fatal Five teammates. He is quickly overpowered by Darkseid's legion, who are holding Booster Gold prisoner.
