Synopsis for "Trial of the Super Friends"
While Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman are busy guarding a top-secret research laboratory that's testing out a highly-dangerous substance called "liquid light" that could potentially be an energy source, Brainiac is plotting a scheme against the Super Friends that will draw them away from the research laboratory. First the Cheetah lures Wonder Woman with a bunch of holographic projections of herself until the Amazon ends up lassoing a remote-controlled Cheetah rocket that causes her to lose her grip on her magic lasso. Then Brainiac uses a wall-breaking machine that Green Lantern stops by creating a machine of his own, only for him to lose his power ring when Brainiac activates a gun that pulls the ring off Green Lantern's finger. Finally, Batman and Robin find themselves attacked by crows who have slipped past the force field perimeter they have activated, lifting the Dynamic Duo high off the ground long enough for the Scarecrow to use a laser device to take their utility belts away. The four heroes wonder why the three villains only went for their power devices and not after the "liquid light" itself when the Hall of Doom hovers overhead and beams them aboard to face a mock trial with Lex Luthor presiding as the judge and the other Legion of Doom members as prosecutors, witnesses, and jurors. The heroes are judged "guilty" and are sentenced to fight their robotic counterparts armed with their own power devices, transported to selected locales like as a deep jungle, a murky swamp, and a rocky desert as their arenas.
Meanwhile, Superman, Flash, and Black Vulcan go to the research laboratory to discover why the four heroes are not at their posts when they find Bizarro and a few other Legion of Doom members have broken in and are now using the "liquid light" to threaten a nearby town. Black Vulcan flies to rescue some boys looking for frogs in a brook from the path of the flowing "liquid light". Superman tries to use an old abandoned dam to stop its flow, but it ends up breaking through, as almost nothing is impenetrable to the substance. The Flash makes a daring successful attempt to create a cyclone which draws the "liquid light" up from the ground and causes it to be dispersed into the air only to fall back to the ground as harmless "falling stars".
The four heroes -- Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern -- prevail in overpowering their counterparts and taking back their power devices before joining with Superman and the other Super Friends outside the research laboratory. Superman says that Lex Luthor is now threatening to use the "liquid light" to cover the entire world if the Legion's demands of turning over control of all the world's oil is not met by all the governments. Batman comes up with a plan: while the other heroes distract the Legion of Doom, Superman burrows a tunnel right underneath the laboratory and then bursts a hole in the fining pot to drain it of all the "liquid light". Black Manta tries to use an atom-smasher to stop the heroes, but the Flash stuns him by spinning at super-speed to bounce its rays back toward the villain. Batman and Robin stop Gorilla Grodd's attack by stunning him with vials of Bat resin. Though the plans of the Legion of Doom have been foiled, Lex Luthor uses his controls to beam his team away and to escape.
