Superboy (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 1972.
Synopsis for "The Mad Piper of Camp Bravo!"
Clark Kent obtains a job as a summer camp counselor at a camp for orphans. He arrives at Camp Bravo and meets the owner Lee Bart along with camp director Ms Price. The orphans are treated to a big cookout and they end the day with a cartoon movie. The orphans seem exhausted once the movie is over and they are escorted back to their cabins. Superboy then goes on patrol but upon returning he finds that the orphans are missing from their beds. He goes out in search of them and finds the orphans wandering in the forest. They seem to be in a zombie like state mumbling that they heard the mockingbird. Clark summons Ms Price and they put the orphans back to bed. They reason that the movie gave them nightmares or rather they were playing a prank on Clark. The next day the orphans go through their activities as Clark supervises them. He endures their practical jokes but takes them in stride. At the end of the day the campers return to their cabin to go to sleep but they disappear once more. Superboy uses his x-ray vision to locate the orphans and finds that they are burrowing into the side of Dwarf Mountain. Superman finds them in a trance like state once more as the orphans reveal they are searching for a chest of treasure. They mention that the mockingbird is telling them to look for the chest. Superboy returns the orphans back to their bunks. They are observed by the camp director Ms Price and she immediately reports what she has seen to the camp owner. It is then revealed that Bart is using the orphans to look for a civil war treasure that was buried in Dwarf Mountain by a group of Union dwarfs. Bart had been using the orphans because of their small size and their ability to search in tight places. He used the cartoon movie to hypnotize them into digging for the treasure but they had not counted on Superboy's interference. The orphans eventually locate the treasure but Superboy makes sure that it is donated to the orphanage. Bart and his accomplice are apprehended and locked up.

Synopsis for "Murder the Leader!"
The Legion is conducting an election for a new leader. Mon El and Saturn girl are the top two contenders for the position. As the members are voting, Mon El and Saturn Girl are teleported away by an energy beam. They arrive on a small planetoid where they are immediately attacked by Validus. He shoots a deadly bolt at the pair of heroes, but Saturn girl blocks it and sacrifices herself for Mon Els safety. Saturn Girl appears dead as Mon El continues to battle the giant behemoth. Mon El soon discovers that the villain Tharok is actually controlling Validus. His plan is to murder every single Legion leader in an effort to disband their organization. Mon El then comes up with the clever plan of joining Tharok. He proposes that with his help, they can conquer the Legion even faster. Tharok agrees to the deal and proclaims himself to be the new leader of the Legion. Tharok is then attacked within moments of his proclamation. He had neglected to remember that Validus was programmed to destroy every leader of the Legion including Tharok. Validus annihilates Tharok which gives Mon El and Saturn Girl the chance to return back to Earth to resume their election. Validus then flies off into the sky to wander the universe.
