Synopsis for "Superboy Meets Ben Hur!"

A distraught Lana Lang walks across the street and is almost run over by a truck. Superboy rescues her and asks what is wrong. Lana reveals that her father has been fired from his job at the museum for mishandling museum funds. The museum director Dr Horst reiterates that Professor Lang used museum funds to purchase a fake bust of Ben Hur, a fictional character from a novel. Lang maintains that the bust is real and Ben Hur really did exist. Superboy decides to travel back in time to see if he can confirm the existence of Lew Wallace’s fictional character.

Superboy travels to Ancient Rome and finds a Roman galley where slaves are rowing a ship. He hears that Ben Hur is aboard and is ordered to row next to him. Superboy notices right away that the man they call Ben Hur bears no resemblance to the bust that Professor Lang purchased. He rows the Roman ship back to port using his super powers but then the Romans try to prevent Superboy from leaving. At this point Ben Hur helps Superboy to escape. As they are running away they encounter a runaway chariot. Ben Hur stops the chariot and the grateful driver introduces himself. He asks Ben Hur if he will drive his chariot in the big race at the coliseum. Ben Hur agrees but only if he can bring along his friend Superboy. The people of Rome begin to place their bets on Ben Hur but the unscrupulous Roman officials do whatever they can to keep the people from making money on the race.

At one point Superboy sells popcorn to raise money for the people so they can place bets. Ben Hur races against Marcellus who will do anything to win. Marcellus attempts to sabotage Ben Hur several times during the race but Ben Hur overcomes all obstacles with Superboys assistance. Ben Hur is declared the winner and he is presented with a hollow statue filled with gold.

Later that night a group of thieves led by Marcellus sever the head of the statue in an effort to get the gold inside. Superboy apprehends the thieves and notices that the battered head of the statue now resembles the bust purchased by Professor Lang. He travels back to the present and reveals his findings. Lang is vindictived and reinstated to his former position in the museum.
