Synopsis for "The Cure - Meltdown Pt 5 of 5"

Superboy's situation continues to get worse, his whole body is breaking apart. Wracked with grief, the Kid has all but given up on a cure. Dr. Packard has a theory, that by using the two cloning pods recovered by Superman and Steel and a donor DNA pattern, they might be able to build back up Superboy's DNA and heal him. For that they need normal, human DNA of someone approximately the same age as the Kid, and there are severe risks involved. Roxy is the only one there who qualifies, and she agrees without question. SB doesn't want her to risk it for him, but she insists with going through with it.

With Rex, Tana, and Dubbilex looking on, the procedure begins. After a long wait, the capsule opens and Superboy emerges back to normal, fully cured and at full strength. The other pod malfunctions, however, and Superboy has to rip it open to free Roxy. He takes her unconcsious form from the pod and begin mouth to mouth, which revives her and she kisses him. Tana feels isolated, knowing that the two of them have been through something very intimate and she says she will understand if they want to be together. However, both Superboy and Roxy now feel like brother and sister and are no longer interested in the other in any other capacity. Superboy embraces Tana.

However, Packard has some bad news. The process has permanately stunted SB's aging process -- he'll never age. Superboy is very upset at the news, but tries to be strong. He flies off alone to sulk, feeling robbed of a future as the next Superman. Just then, the real Superman shows up to have a heart to heart. Since he's currently in his Superman Blue phase, the Man Beyond Tomorrow understands all to well what the Kid is going through. The Kid feels a lot better afterwards, and the "never ending battle goes on!"
