Synopsis for "Southern Cookin'"

In a small bayou town of Chattahoochie, Florida, Superboy, Serling, and Tekka are on business tracking down genetic anomalies. The Kid is not impressed by the stereotyped scene and wonders how the heck he ended up there. Thinking back, he remembers that Mick had asked him to go to Detroit to battle Shrapnel, but being completely exhausted by his recent exertions with Batman and Batgirl Superboy begs Guardian to take his place. Guardian agreed--but then Mickey slapped Kon with the trip to Florida.

Things get just plain out weird when a team of bizarre meta-humans called the Rednex show up. They coax Superboy and the girls to go with them back to their trailer park. At the camp is Gorgeous Gilly, a holdover from the Reign of Emperor Joker, and a grotesquely ugly woman. Gilly mesmerizes Superboy into agreeing to a shotgun wedding (though Agent Mulder had been her first choice) and everything is set. Tekka and Serling are first kept under the watch of J.C., a man said to be so hideous (even to these guys) that he always wears a mask, and then they are outfitted as bridesmaids. Serling shouts to the hypnotized Superboy that it's not doing anything for her ego to see the guy who dumped her transfixed by that "thing." The joke of a wedding goes through all the way to the kiss (as Superboy later put it "AIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH!"). Serling rips off J.C.'s mask and covers Superboy's head with it which snaps him out of the trance.

After taking a rush stop at Mach 2 to the local store for mouth wash, degreaser, and sand paper, Superboy heads back to the park. Tekka is now transfixed by J.C., who she finds to be the cutest guy she's ever seen. Raining down a shower of soap bubbles on the freaks which sends them scattering, Superboy rescues Serling and Tekka and flies back to Cadmus as fast as he can.

A solemn Mickey meets Superboy when he arrives. He shows the Kid Guardian's helmet--which has a huge gash in it where a shard of metal ended the life of Cadmus's champion.
