Synopsis for "Chapter One: Where Do I Begin?"

Kara Danvers appears to be an ordinary American teenager. She lives in Midvale, a quaint Midwestern town. Her father Jeremiah is an old-fashioned and paranoid but well-meaning farmer. Her mother Eliza is a doting, loving housewife. Her friends know exactly who they are and who they want to become.

However, Kara doesn't know who she is or where she came from. Eight years ago, her parents found her inside a rocket that came from the sky. She doesn't remember anything about her former life, although she has a recurring and impenetrable jumble of a dream. And she is not an ordinary girl, either. She is massively strong and fast, and can fly. She hides her powers as per her father's advice.

Kara and her friends Dolly and Jenny run track. During a training, their coach hands some solar-powered Fitbit bracelets to them to track vital signs. Dolly is extremely suspicious about those wristbands, but her friends dismiss their concerns as paranoia.

Nonetheless, after putting the bracelet on, Kara's powers start going wonky, failing every so often as her hands glow.

A few days after Kara's sixteenth birthday, Midvale is hosting a big track meet. Kara and her friends are preparing to run their first track when an earthquake hits the place.
