Synopsis for Chapter One: "Men, Women and Dogs"

On an alien world, in the countryside, a farmer is murdered by a duplicitous guest, Krem of the Yellow Hills, an agent of the local King, leaving a sword in the farmer's gut, before running away. The farmer's daughter, Ruthye Marye Knoll finds the scene of her father's murder, and swears vengeance upon the Kingsagent.

Ruthye leaves her family and the farm she grew up on and sets out to the city to find a warrior to kill Krem. She comes to a place called the Whaletower, and meets a warrior in a tavern, who says he can find the Kingsagent, but at a cost. Ruthye offers him Krem's sword upon completion of the quest, but the man just takes it by force, telling Ruthye to go home, knowing that the Kingsagent will suffer. She says he's mistaken and asks for the sword back, so the warrior slaps her across the face, knocking her over. As the man tries to leave, another (debilitatingly drunken) reveler in the tavern, accompanied by a dog, grabs the hilt of the sword. He threatens to cut off her fingers, but she says "What? No... Just stop for a second.". She takes the sword from him and says she's gonna give it back to Ruthye, saying "And you... just go away, okay, and we won't fight because it's my birthday.". He threatens her again, but she thinks he's mad that she's drinking so she says not to be mad, because she's 21 so "it's official", and "That's the truth and the justice and the American way.". He slashes his sword across her chest, not piercing her flesh, but ripping her jacket, revealing a red and yellow emblem under her jacket. The two fight, the man is defeated, and Supergirl stands victorious above him, barely before blacking out.

Later, Supergirl wakes up, Ruthye having taken her to a room at an inn. Ruthye introduces herself and asks Supergirl to help her kill Krem, offering her the sword as a reward. Later, Ruthye continues to plead with her as she gets in her boat to leave. Supergirl tells Ruthye she got what she came for and has to go home. She tells her "Goodbye. Best of luck. Don't kill people. It's bad." before leaving, boating across the lake. Ruthye takes a beat and then dives in, swimming after Supergirl.

Across the lake, Ruthye finds Supergirl and her hidden spaceship. Supergirl tells her to leave because the lift off could hurt her and the ship is already on autopilot to leave, but Ruthye keeps pleading with her. Supergirl tells her she understands, but she has responsibilities on earth, and a job where the first rule is "don't kill people". Ruthye starts to cry and yell and says Kara doesn't understand, that all that talk of compassion and ideals is dandy if you know the ground you stand on is solid, saying "-but I lost my world!", shaking Kara to her core. Suddenly, an arrow lands in Supergirl's chest, shot by Krem, who was tipped off by the bounty hunter from Whaletower. Krypto tries to protect Kara and Ruthye but catches an arrow to the collar bone, falling over. Kara fights back against Krem and bounty hunter, getting hit by more arrows. Krem runs to the mysterious ship, knocking over Ruthye as she tries to attack him. As he gets to the ship, the liftoff starts and the ship shoots into space, knocking everyone back, as Krem gets away.
