Supergirl #9 is an issue of the series Supergirl (Volume 1) with a cover date of January, 1974.

Synopsis for "The Super-Amazon!"

Supergirl saves a couple from falling down a cliff and discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her. Later she saves a pilot who complains he didn't want to be saved. Still later, she rescues a teen idol from his fans and the man wants to reward her with a kiss. Feeling fed up with men, Supergirl flies away to be alone.

As soaring over the Pacific Ocean, she spots an Amazon vessel, and Queen Hippolyta and Nubia being attacked by Shark-Men. Supergirl swiftly does away with the Shark-Men, but Nubia has been wounded. Kara right away flies them to Paradise Island. As Nubia is being taken to a physician, Hippolyta praises Supergirl and states she would her like getting Kara joining the Amazons as her adopted daughter.

Kara takes up her offer, passes the tests with flying colors and earns her Amazon tiara, bracelets, belt and boots. Hippolyta is officially making her an Amazon Princess, when they are told Nubia is dying cause of the Shark poison, and the only antidote is an herb growing on Cologi, a tiny and dangerous island located on the Pacific Ocean. Kara volunteers to bring back the Cologi root in time in spite of the dangers.

Supergirl lands on the island and fetches one plant. Then she is attacked by three angry sorcerers. Their magic blasts' scepters are about to kill her, but they are scared away by a man disguised as a huge and mad white gorilla. The man introduces himself to Kara as Fong. Kara explains her predicament and is about to leave, but Fong warns the earlier magic attack stripped her from her powers. Supergirl asks him help her out, but Fong explains that he can't do so because, per his people's customs, he must now protect her forever. Kara tries to explain she is needed out of that island and she doesn't need any protection, but he doesn't listen and even tries to hurt her; so she knocks him out as soon as he turns his back on her, borrows his gorilla disguise and frightens the sorcerer trio away. The three sorcerers drop their magical rattles as running away, and Supergirl uses them on herself to recover her powers.

Kara flies back to Paradise Island with the antidote in time to save Nubia's life. However, her island adventure made her see that exiling myself in Paradise Island even though the world needs her would be wrong, so she gives her Amazon tokens back and says goodbye to Hippolyta. As Supergirl leaves, the Amazonian Queen states she will always think of her as her third daughter.
