Synopsis for "Who Killed Lucy Lane?"
Lois Lane arrives in San Quantos South America to look for her missing sister Lucy who has supposedly drowned in a canoeing accident. She encounters a man named Miguel Delbroma who states that he hosted Lucy at his guest cottage but she has since disappeared. He then offers the same cottage to Lois who readily accepts. In the meantime Superman is briefed on a missing scientist named Damon Montago who disappeared in San Quantos. Montago has developed a formula that could be used to destroy a continent. It is feared that he has been abducted by the 100. Superman heads to South America to rescue Montago.
Back at the cottage Lois Lane discovers a diary written by Lucy Lane. In the diary she confesses that she is a spy for the 100 and she was assigned to steal Montagos formula. Lucy photographs Montagos briefcase with a special X-ray camera but falls in love with Montago and is reluctant to hand over the microfilm to the 100. Lois continues to read Lucy's diary and finds a secret code which reveals the location of the microfilm. Lucy heads to Miguel Delbromas estate to investigate but is readily captured. Delbroma has Lois strapped to a wheel with the intention of intimidating her with darts but has a change of heart. He promises to hand over Lucy if Lois produces the film. Lois then hands over Lucy's ring with the film inside but it is struck by a burst of xrays from a disguised Superman. The film is ruined and Superman subdues Delbroma and his agents. The scientist Damon Montago appears and announces that his formula is too dangerous for mankind and will destroy his notes. The woman states that she is too old to wear the Thorn costume but she has a daughter that will wear it. The duplicate Thorn is revealed to be a disco dancer named Pythona. Synopsis for "The Bakery Counterfeiters"
This story is reprinted from Superman #29.
To the great amusement of her co-workers, Lois Lane is assigned to cover "Mrs. Twipp's Housewives Marketing Hints" while the regular columnist is ill. Lois seethes with frustration as she walks across town, to interview the Bakery Shop proprieter for this week's column. But when she gets there, she spots two well-known lowlifes: "Fingers" Gordon and "Pinball" Miggsy, and because of her sunglasses they don't recognize her, which is a lucky break for Lois, because the Daily Planet had played a big role in Gordon's arrest and conviction. Gratz, the Baker-Owner, is strangely uneasy about the Planet's free publicity, and when she tries to buy a loaf of bread, the store staff are downright rude, so on her way out the door, Miss Lane has some questions and suspicions. And when she sees Pinball Miggsy buy a particular loaf of bread, which just moments ago was strictly NOT for sale, Lois tests her theory. She fakes a twisted ankle, trips Miggsy, picks up his loaf of bread instead of her own. This provokes a scuffle in which the loaf breaks open, and is full of bank notes! The four-man gang closes in on Lois, just as her pals, Officers Noonan and Carmody, happen to roll by in their squad car. They pitch in and subdue the bad guys, and a search of the bake shop turns up a lot of evidence confirming that the shop was a front for an illegal lottery operation.
So the next day Lois gets a hearty giggle at the expense of co-reporters Steve Bard and Clark Kent, when her story of the busting of the lottery ring runs on the front page, and Bard is assigned to cover next week's Housewife column.

Synopsis for "Lois Lane - Volunteer Nurse!"
This story is reprinted from Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #43.
Jimmy Olsen poses for a picture dressed as a prisoner complete with ball and chain. Perry White comes out of his office and trips over Jimmys Costume accessories. Perry is furious to find he has broken his leg because he realizes he has to go to the hospital for care. He makes things worse when he smashes down his fist in frustration and breaks his hand. Lois Lane witnesses Perry's difficult behavior and secretly hopes she will not have to care for Perry while she works as a volunteer nurse at the hospital. Lois makes her rounds helping different patients. At one point she reads a newspaper to a bed ridden man and sees that the 14 karat gang is pulling robberies around town. She then sees Clark Kent entering Perry's room and she follows. Perry commences to bellow out orders. He instructs Clark to investigate the 14 Karat gang when he is suddenly interrupted by a military general who enters the room. The General is towing a patient in an iron lung and explains that the man must stay in Perry's room. The patients name is Lt Paul Hunt and he has apparently been shot by a foreign secret agent with a bullet made from a special alloy. The bullet has to be removed so it can be studied by government scientists. In the meantime, the bullet is hindering Hunts ability to breathe and he must be kept in the iron lung. The bullet must be removed but only by a specialist named Dr Rivera in Mexico. The General asks Perry to keep an eye on Lt Hunt to make sure enemy agents do not get to him while he arranges safe passage to Mexico for his operation.
Lois proceeds to care for Lt Hunt and he becomes increasingly smitten with her. At one point he even draws himself getting married to Lois. Hunt also talks in his sleep and Perry overhears him professing his love for Lois. While sleeping, Hunt also mentions that he is reluctant to ask Lois for Superman's help in getting medical attention. Lois arranges for Superman to fly Hunt to Mexico for his operation. Later that night Lois visits Perry's room and sees that he has received a new roommate who is also confined in an iron lung but she notices that this patient has his arms inside the lung unlike Hunt who had his arms on the outside. A suspicious Lois immediately catches a flight to Mexico and arrives at Dr Rivera's office where she finds a healthy Lt Hunt and the man who posed as General Blair. They confess that they are members of the 14 karat gang and they have tricked Superman into helping them smuggle their loot out of the country. After they confess, they drop Lois through a trap door where she falls into a pool of water but she is immediately rescued by Superman and the gang members are rounded up. Lois has borrowed Jimmys watch to summon Superman's help.

Notes
In the first story, the secret code in Lucy's diary reads “UHE film is hidden in my ring”. The abbreviation UHE probably stands for ultraviolate high energy since it was shot with an x-ray camera.
