Synopsis for "The Witch of Metropolis"

This story is reprinted from Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #1.

A scientist named Professor Jason experiments with some chemicals, which create extremely noxious fumes. Lois Lane finds herself exposed to these chemicals and begins to transform into a hideous-looking old woman. She comes to believe that she is in fact a witch. Superman learns that the effects of Professor Jason's experiments are only temporary and decides to humor Lois by secretly mimicking supernatural abilities. Lois begins to believe that she is a genuine witch, until such time as the effects wear off. Superman confronts her and admits to simulating Lois' perceived powers. Although frustrated by the Man of Steel, she is grateful to have resumed her normal form once again.

Synopsis for "Lois Lane - Convict"

This story is reprinted from Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #6.

A gangster known as Sharpie discovers that Lois Lane is working on an exposé that may get him into trouble with the authorities. He secretly meets with Lois and offers her a bribe to kill the story. Lois accepts the money, but soon discovers that the gangster has taken a picture of her with the money. He uses the photo to blackmail Lois even further.

The authorities discover Lois' crime and she is sent to prison. She confesses to accepting stolen money in exchange for killing the crime story. A group of thugs break Lois out of prison and arrange a meeting with the mob leader, Baldy Pate. Baldy pressures Lois into telling him the location of the evidence she had intended on using against him (a set of counterfeit license plates). Superman arrives and rescues Lois. The entire scheme was a ploy to bring Baldy Pate out into the open so that the authorities could bring him up on charges.

Lois Lane loses her mind after seeing Clark Kent change into Superman and hallucinates she is really Florence Nightingale, Barbara Freitche, Betsy Ross, Madame Curie, and Queen Isabella. Superman humors her to keep her from a total crackup and, when she gets back to normal, convinces her that she actually saw both Superman and Clark in his apartment.

Synopsis for "The Ghost of Lois Lane"

This story is reprinted from Superman #129.

At the Daily Planet a salesman manages to sell Jimmy Olsen a typewriter that is so sensitive that it can type up words with only a breath from the writers mouth. Lois is asked by Perry to bring a briefcase belonging to Professor Grail on Warder's Island and try to get a scoop on his latest experiment. Lois goes, but forgets the briefcase, Professor Grail delightfully allows her to view his latest experiment unattended, as he intends to take a boat back to the mainland anyway. Before leaving he shows her his latest invention, a device that may transmit people through space via radio. Back on the mainland, Superman arrives at the Daily Planet and is asked by Perry to bring the briefcase to the island.

When Superman arrives he uses his x-ray vision to look into the building accidentally activating the device and causing a huge explosion. Believing that Lois Lane was killed, and blaming himself, Superman believes he is haunted by Lois's ghost as it appears wherever he goes. Returning to the Daily Planet and changing into Clark Kent, Superman is still being followed by Lois's supposed ghost. Just then, Jimmy's typewriter springs to life, Lois is able to manipulate the hyper-sensitive tool and informs everyone that she is trapped in the 4th Dimension and asks for Superman's help in rescuing her.

Clark changes back into Superman and returns to Professor Grail's lab where he repairs the device and uses it to bring Lois back to Earth. They deduce together that Superman was the only one who could see her because whenever he used his x-ray vision it made her visible to him.

Synopsis for "The Fattest Girl in Metropolis"

This story is reprinted from Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #5.

Lois Lane investigates an unsolved murder, and peruses a series of mug shots. However, she is unable to successfully identify the culprit from the pictures in her possession. Later, she visits a local scientist named Professor Colby. Colby possesses a device which exposes Lois to a wave of energy, altering her size. She is now the fattest girl in all of Metropolis.

The murderer, Swags Swanson, tracks Lois down and prepares to shoot her, but Superman arrives and apprehends the criminal. He then tells Lois that he secretly conspired with Professor Colby to expose her to the growth ray in the hopes of disguising her features. Fortunately, the effects of Professor Colby's machine are only temporary.
