Superman/Wonder Woman: Whom Gods Destroy #2 is an issue of the series Superman/Wonder Woman: Whom Gods Destroy (Volume 1) with a cover date of January, 1997.

Synopsis for "The Hunt"

After the Waffen-SS attempted to arrest Superman and Lois, the Kryptonian sneezed, blowing away the Nazis, while another Nazi later questioned them on the nature of their visit. Sometime after being questioned by Herr Schrager, Superman ripped open Germany's ground in order to find Auschwitz, which the Nazis had removed in order to hide evidence of their atrocities before Colonel Gerd von Hargin convinced him not to attack his soldiers. Meanwhile, in Naples, the Oracle of Delphi revealed to Lana that she had been brought there to help stop a war and the enslavement of humanity.

In Italy, Lois met Adonis, who was an officer of the S.S. and asked her to sign his copy of her biography of Bruce Wayne. She recalled her friendship with Bruce Wayne and how he chose not to respond after the Nazis bombed Metropolis and killed many, including his wife Selina. Lois saved Adonis from being shot, but the would-be-shooter later had her smuggle him past Adonis in order for her to prove that she wasn't a "Nazi lover." She joined Athena and Artemis in the resistance before they had her "claim her destiny" and become Wonder Woman, while Superman stood powerless when he encountered and fought Typhon.

Notes

  • A flashback shows that Clark Kent and Lana Lang's senior prom was in 1932. This, combined with the newspaper of Clark's wall with a homage to Action Comics #1 suggests that in this universe Clark Kent became Superman during the 1930's.
  • In this universe, after being inspired by Lois' first interview with Superman, Bruce Wayne gave up being the Batman, and became a district attorney, which led to him becoming President of the United States during the 1960's[1], and later Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. This also implies that this version of Batman, like Superman, was around during the 1930's.
  • Jor-El and Lara's looks resemble the designs by John Byrne from The Man of Steel.
