Synopsis for "Chapter One: Secrets of Czarnia"

Brainiac Prime monitors Superman and Lobo's progress towards the Skull Ship. He reflects on how the two are similar in some ways but very different in others, and starts thinking about how he obtained the bottle city containing General Chacal and "Bad Blood". Many years ago, Czarnian scientists discovered the secrets of regeneration, and were poised to become a culture focused on self-improvement and scholarship as violence and war had become obsolete without death. However, the remaining violent malcontents gathered under Chacal's banner and took control of the city of Paz.

Because Bad Blood could not be killed Czarnia called on their greatest living strategist General Trib to stop them, before she transitioned to work as a teacher. She summoned a previous incarnation of Brainiac and asked him to take Paz, telling him he could study the Czarnians within and uncover their secrets of immortality. Brainiac took the city as agreed, but he then betrayed Tribb and set his drones to destroy the planet as usual. Although his robots had refined the process of destroying planets to maximum efficiency, he stayed to watch for the first time in years. He witnessed a father fighting to protect his children from the drones and attempting to flee, even though it was hopeless. Brainiac could not understand why someone would desperately struggle to survive even when their world was doomed and withdrew along with the drones to ponder the question. He returned many years later and found the planet dead, the people all killed by Lobo.

Synopsis for "Chapter Two: Campaign Headquarters"

Perry White's campaign for mayor is struggling as a smooth tongued, wealthy, far-right grifter named Garon Blake is managing to con the struggling blue collar residents of the city by posing as a working class populist and blaming everyone's problems on alien refugees; his hateful message spread by idiot online provocateurs and gullible, dimwitted podcasters. Depressed, Perry goes to the Ace o' Clubs, which also serves as his campaign headquarters, and complains that he cannot convince people of the obvious: that their problems are not caused by outsiders with no money or power. A Blue Earth member storms in to yell at them, and Perry asks him what he will do if all the aliens are forced off Earth and his life still sucks. The guy is unable to answer and just storms off mindlessly parroting slogans. Bibbo tells Perry that his neighbourhood has changed many times as new waves of immigrants moved in and brought their culture with them, and he will never understand the people who want to keep everything the same.

Blake, who has the right to chose the venue for their mayoral debate, decides to hold it in Centennial Park right outside A-Town. An alien refugee girl sneaks in to the crowd and, when she is seen, Blue Earth members supporting Blake try to lynch her. Bibbo fights them off, allowing the girl to escape. The next day, one of Blake's supporters who was at the debate comes into the Ace o' Clubs. He tells Bibbo that he's not sure how he feels about the aliens, but he knows what happened to the girl wasn't right and he doesn't want to be like the men who attacked her. Bibbo tells him that's a start and pours him a drink.

Synopsis for "Chapter Three: Signal"

Amanda Waller sets the Bureau of Sovereignty to find out who their mysterious benefactors the Council of Light are. Her agents can find no records of them existing, or any links to any government. She is finally able to track their encrypted signal and realises they are not broadcasting from Earth when they speak with her. She calls a meeting with them and demands to know who they really are. They reveal that they are in fact various iterations of Brainiac, who want to use her to weaken Earth by eliminating the superheroes.

Waller cuts all ties with them and swears that she will destroy them, but continues to work to eliminate the heroes for her own purposes without a single thought as to the potentially devastating consequences now that she knows for a fact there are hostile alien forces who want to eliminate Earth's superpowered defenders.

Notes

Trivia

  • The second story includes a single-panel appearance from an over-muscled, conspiratorial, dudebro podcast host. He is an obvious parody of Joe Rogan, with the exception of having a beard as opposed to being completely bald.
    • It also shows a website named "LeXema", which appears to function similar to Twitter/"X".
