"Identity Crisis" was a four-part storyline published in alternating Superman titles dated from July to August of 1996 (Superman navigation numbers 1996/26 to 1996/29). The story featured the return of Brainiac, who took control of Superman's body. The Man of Steel was left trapped in the body of a young psychiatric patient, Chas, who was already convinced that he himself was Superman.
