Synopsis for "Oblivion - Superman: Lost, Book Seven"

Clark is still experiencing PTSD because of his long journey in space, so Kara has suggested him that he visit his therapist, Dr Michael Schwartz. Clark agrees to go, not as Clark, but as Superman. Hiding his suit beneath a hooded jacket, Superman has snuck into the therapist's building and begun to talking to Dr. Schwartz, who continuously insists that he is not a doctor, about his problems. He tells Dr. Schwartz that he had no idea of what kind of pain Supergirl underwent when she lost Krypton because, unlike him, she spent her whole life there. Now, he knows how that pain feels like, especially because he feels that he is losing the love of his life.

Superman, having ventured deep into the anomaly, attempts to navigate through it, only to find the anomaly has damaged Marquis, so he is unable to make sense of what's happening. The older Superman tells his younger counterpart that he will never find planet Kansas again. The older Superman already tried, but even after having studied the anomaly for decades, he was unable to find it. When the younger Superman asks his older self why did he travel to the past, the older Superman says that he wants to save the younger Superman from himself.

The older Superman had managed to return to Earth, but in his absence, scientists had found a way to reverse the planet's greenhouse effect. This miracle event, "Oinos", successfully healed the Earth, but prevented Superman's body from absorbing solar radiation. He lost his powers. Even so, he joined the Justice League to defend the Earth from a race of self-aware machines. He believed that the endorphin rush would somehow "kick-start" him back into full strength, but it wasn't enough and all Superman got for his trouble was a back-breaking injury. Earth was saved, not because of the Justice League, but by simple malignant code strings.

Superman fell deep into depression and Lois re-married. The scientists responsible for the creation of Oinos attempted to find a way to restore Superman's powers but caused severe genetic damage to themselves. Superman, who by that point was living with the scientists, was visited by Jimmy, who had just learned that Clark and Superman were the same person. Feeling sorry for his old friend, Jimmy believed there was a way for Superman to regain his powers. He took Superman to a crashed ship, formerly used by the invaders, and Superman used to reach into the Earth's low orbit, away from the Oinos effect. The plan worked, but Superman would never be able to return to Earth again.

Back in the anomaly, the younger Superman immediately realizes his older self is lying to him. He never returned to Earth and he never lost his powers. He has been stuck in the anomaly the whole time and has even been telling his fake story to the countless other Supermen that have passed through the anomaly, and all of them have rejected him. Young Superman tells Old Superman to come with him and they can save Kansas together, but Old Superman refuses because, at best they will get on each other's nerves and, at worst, Young Superman will second-guess himself and start looking to Old Superman for answers that Old Superman doesn't have. Old Superman just tells his younger self to go home and never take it and Lois for granted again.

Superman successfully passes through the anomaly but the effort leaves him unconscious for three days, so Marquis, once again reactivated, sends out a distress beacon. Superman's exact location is unknown, but he has been rescued by Adam Strange.

In the present, Lois visits a restaurant, where Lex has been expecting her. Lex, always in his arrogant self, mocks Lois for thinking that she could fix Superman by just giving him time, but Lois replies that Lex can't stand watching Superman acting so depressed because, deep down, he needs Superman to feel complete and he enjoys their conflict. Lex deduces that Lois visited him because she believes he can come up with a way to get Superman to overcome his depression and tells Lois that he has already found a way: he has infected her with cancer.

Lois angrily attacks Lex for doing something so cruel, but Lex happily admits that he doesn't care about her. He only cares about Superman's reaction. Lois visits the hospital for a check-up and realizes that she indeed has cancer. She returns home, only to find that Clark is cooking bay scallops for her. He has visited a therapist and is taking steps to recovery.
