Superman: Our Worlds at War Secret Files and Origins #1 is an issue of the series Our Worlds at War (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 2001.

Synopsis for "The Eighth Day"

Since the dawn of time, the universe has been destroyed by Imperiex and reborn from the ashes of the old. Now, Liri Lee of the Linear Men sees that Imperiex has re-awoken. Imperiex and his/its probes are moving through the universe, destroying worlds to create powerful black holes which destroy all around them. He/it/they has/have destroyed Kalanor, Daxam, Karna (home to the Gordanians and the Tamaraneans) and Almerac (Maxima's homeworld). However, survivors of these worlds, with many other allies are banding together to prevent the end of the universe - they will make their stand on the next target world: Earth.

Recently, Superman and Mongul faced and defeated a probe of Imperiex, thinking it to be Imperiex itself, but now the probes are arriving in force. Liri Lee watches this and reflects that this is the natural pattern of the universe's progression, and so it must be allowed to happen.

Synopsis for "Resources"

On the orders of Secretary Amanda Waller, Director Bones of the D.E.O. assembles a group of agents to prepare a report on all the resources the USA has to counter the coming threat of Imperiex. There's the Suicide Squad, including heavy hitters Shrapnel, Chemo and Plasmus. Alien hardware from the Invasion of some years ago has gone missing. The military hardware is being supplied by a combination of Ferris Aircraft hardware and Lexcorp's B-13 technology. And there's always the orphanages, homes for young metahumans who don't yet know how to handle their powers.

Just as the report is completed, they receive news of the attack on Kansas. The war has begun.
